Voom's channels look really good. ESPN-HD is really lousy.

I live in the O&O area of Detroit, but apparently WTOL (CBS) in Toledo is invoking their part of the rule and forcing Detroit DMA folks to them for waivers. Two calls to Dish have produced this result. One thing I can say for sure is that I will NOT point an antenna at that stupid affiliate in...

Makes me glad I leased the 811. I'll just ship it back when I need to swap it 4 the MPEG-4 version of the 811.

61.5 from Seattle and an 80 on the meter? Wow. Cool. :D

I'd like to buy a 921 or 942, but the only thing that worries me is what happens when they convert to MPEG-4. That's why I leased an 811 until Dish commits to a definite upgrade policy.

I second that. I want Gunslinger HD, Kung Fu HD and World Sport HD. ;)

As a side note, I live in a Comcrap area, and I am starting to hear a lot of complaining about their prices. Sounds like they just had a big price increase.

I ordered them and so far I think they are worth the $5 a month. Will be nice when we get all 21. Hats off to Charlie, he really pulled a fast one on D*. I would suspect most VOOM'ers will go with Dish to remain VOOM'ers. Thanks to Charlie and the Dolans, a lot more people can VOOM now. I...

Yeah, I hear u on DVR. Have a 510 in one room, then the 811 in another. I letting my sister use my old 501, then the other day threatened to take it back (teasing her). She told me she'd remove my arm if I tried. Laverne seems to think I may have offended you Tony. I apologise to YOU...

FYI You dont have to have an HD set. Dish offers a special on the 811 receivers. The 811 has two sets of SD output and an s-video output. HD programming is then output in SD, letterboxed, DVD-like quality. The picture quality of the downrezzed HD channels reminds me of the days when C-band...

They keep the list up to date. I think you're getting screwed by Dish.

http://ekb.dbstalk.com/dishlist.htm scroll thru the list and you should find your locals and what satellite they are on

Yes you could. You could buy a 811 and use the composite outputs to your TV. The picture would not be HD. It would be a very clear SD, letterboxed 480i signal. I have both SD(composite out) and HD outputs(component out) running into my HD set in addition to another run to a SD 36" set...

Boy, am I glad I added the 61.5 dish in January when I moved. Detroit has one useless local home shopping/religious channel on 61.5 that got me the dish for free. Maybe channel 38 isn't so useless after all. I am glad to see VOOM'ers aren't going to lose all their HD stuff. Very cool. :D I...

I am using the SD outputs mostly now, except for when I want to see a select program in HD. Then I switch over to my component input on my Toshiba. The 811 HD output is set to 1080i and 16x9. I put up with the picture squeeze, because I found the 4x3 settings didn't help much. The 4x3...

I was already watching HD through my Samsung OTA box. The Sammy does better than the 811 picture-wise, but the 811 does a good job on bringing all signals together. It is really nice to be able to view all signals on one box. I used to have a Motorola HD box when I had Comcast. What a piece...

I can say at this point I will most often use the S-video composite outputs. A letterbox of 16x9 SD is very tolerable on my two 36" 4x3 TV's. I am a guy who likes widescreen a LOT. I have to tinker a bit more before I can say which settings I will use for the component output. I'll let you...

I got the 811 yesterday and have it running. Only complaint I have is that it looks like they are using a cheaper line doubler to convert 480i to 480p for the component outputs. I already prefer using the S-video/composite outputs for viewing SD channels and letting my Toshiba do the line...

It would be nice to have the national nets up there if one wants to subscribe to them. They really should be able to be purchased by anyone, but like that will happen...
