Personally, I re-encode all my stuff into XviDs. Why? Same quaility, but much smaller. Instead of lugging DVDs around, I load up a bunch of movies onto my laptop's hard drive. Saves battery power since the DVD drive uses more power, and much easier to deal with. Some people compress stuff...

The switch? Not neccessarily. The install, Definately. No matter how it is set up right now, who ever comes out MUST properly ground the system. Make sure that it is done and if they won't do it, tell them to leave and report it to dish. Proper grounding is NOT an OPTION, it's a...

They are still very useful for the majority of subs who don't have HD TVs. The MPEG4 changeover is gonna take years, and they will be worth something for some time. Short answer: Yes Long answer: Well, you can do it(or could). There is a forum over on Yahoo called Dishrip that has a setup...

That's because the DPPTwin is basically a DPTwin and a DPDual/DP21 built-in. It's part of the signalling scheme. From what I remember, if you run the output from a DPPTwin into a DP21, it deactivated the input on the DPPTwin. Also, remember that the DPPTwin supports the DPP stuff, so running...

Courtesy given is courtesy given back. Most people will offer a cold drink to us installers on a hot day. I have no problems asking a customer if I could get a glass of water or make use of their bathroom if necessary. I make sure I don't leave a mess. Most customers are very gracious. Only...

Sorry you had problems. I've seen some horrible installs done by cable techs, as well as some really good ones, so don't just blame the company. The installer is at fault, and the company should be made aware of that.

I would make them remount the dishes on straps. If the E* installer drilled into the chimney, then E* should repair it. Whatever you do, have the chimney inspected by a professional to make sure that the damage will not cause you problems. And don't wait for the middle of winter. If they...

And an attitude like that would be one where I would leave way before you tried to "escort" me. If I am the "professional", and I give you my "professional opinion" and you don't want to take it, then that's your right. However, don't expect me to bend over backwards to give you something you...

Negative. The "combiner" is built into the DP+ Twin. The sperator is used at the reciever to split the signal for each tuner. And it has to be hooked up sat 1 to sat 1 and sat 2 to sat 2.

That's understandable. Generalizations are what creates problems, be it a sub vs employee, black vs white, etc. If he did a good job, then great. His failing was not asking if you wanted to keep the old dish. That's why I always ask. If someone is standing over me, I ask them to let me do...

If you aren't an installer, then do you really have a right to question one? I rarely have a call back, because like I tell the customer, if I have to come back, it's money out of my pocket. I'm not perfect, and if there is a problem, I fix it. How would I feel? Perfectly fine because I have...

Considering that D* nor E* use anything past 2.2Ghz, that's a moot point. Since I am a Sub, I have to pay for my supplies. I have re-used 10 year old cable that was perfectly fine with no problems at all, but had to replace 6 month old "brand new" cable that went bad. I would use the old...

And this is a no-no WHY? If the cable is in good shape, why do I have to re-install new? Especially if it is a difficult run or would make more hassle to do it. The customer almost NEVER wants that. There is no rule saying I can't re-use the existing wire. If it must be replaced then it's...

    1. What type of LNB are you using? Do a Menu/6/1/1/switch check and tell us that. 2. Multiple receivers/tuners is very possible with all E* dishes. 3. If you have a Dish500, then a QUAD LNB would be an easy upgrade. 4. A DPPTwin would be a great choice for running the 721 on 1 wire.

You can diplex either the Cable line or the OTA channels, but not both. Further, since you have cable internet, you would need diplexors rated for 5-40Mhz as well for the cable if you diplexed that. You would need 3 cables for the 622. Sat in/diplex with OTA, Cable, and TV2 Out to another TV.

Most of those are ones who already had more than 1 HD box.

You can only get 1 ViP right now, but you could do the 622/510/510 with no problems.

Uhhh, E* tried that with the DHAs. For over 2 years, if you were a DHA account, you HAD to have the locals. Only recently did they change that. So, for the Harrisonburg, VA DMA, you got nailed for an extra $5 a month for nothing. Old news. At least with E*, you can get just the locals for...
