If you don't want to upgrade now it might be worth calling dish and trying to get the fee removed since they don't charge it for new upgrades anymore.

It was 45Min in for me on PBS News Hour Audio of the segment here http://www-tc.pbs.org/newshour/rss/media/2009/02/04/20090204_dtv.mp3 , the guest said 1/4 of all stations have already applied to shutdown on 2/17.

Maybe Dish decided not to update the 6000 to work with the new smart card, I don't know why else they would care if you kept it on SD.
  4. General DISH™ Discussion
Maybe dish checks the caller ID name and if they match it passes

Currently must carry does not apply to sub channels, if they could must carry it they probably would.

Tivo will probably demo or at least have a mock up of a new DirecTivo, maybe some cable SDV adapters.

TBN and ION have announced HD though its not here yet and they run 5 and 4 streams respectively now, pretty much leaves independents and even our low power independent is talking about going HD for some syndicated shows and hockey. I heard USDTV was wanting to go to MPEG4 to gain more capacity...

True, I should have said at a minimum. They would be leveling the playing field with themselves. ABC=Disney, CBS owns Showtime, Fox is News Corp who also owns MNTV, NBC=Universal, CW is half CBS and half Warner Brothers (Time Warner) Cable channels refer to the cable companies as their...

I do think stations should be required to adequately cover their DMA, my DMA is so large no single transmitter could cover it. This actually killed the local content of a full power NBC affiliate in Flagstaff here in AZ because DBS carried the NBC station in Phoenix. The station is still there...

The only reason to own is if you want to subscribe to Premiums or internationals without a base package that qualifies for a lease.

HD enabling fee was introduced on 2/1/2006, maybe if he had the package before then already activated on a 211. I replaced an 811 with a 622 and was charged the fee even though I had the HDPak

$5 voom pak was dropped from my account when it went mpeg4 even though I had an mpeg4 box. Now that the Bronze package is $30, the same price as HD Absolute I would not be surprised to find the extra channels in Absolute missing from our subscriptions next February. When the Turbo packages...

Most common I've heard is needing a box and in turn a fee for each TV though that is becoming moot as cable takes analog channels digital and encrypted. Hit the View button , should dump you out to video from most menus. Once to get back a currently playing dvr video and again to go to live tv.

If you prefer to use the 9xxx range only you can remove all of the duplicates by going to Menu, System Setup, Local Channels, Chan Display, and disable DishHD Channels. In that dialog you can also disable the local channel map downs.

If a superstation carries a syndicated program a local station bought rights to they can ask Dish to black it out. If a station requests this Dish simply won't offer the superstation.

Is everyone else seeing USAHD and SCIFIHD on 5502 and 5503? I've had them for a while just mentioning it because of the additional Alaska channels.

They might be able to tell when the TV is off if its connected via HDMI, I've seen sets that drop HDCP when switching inputs so I would guess it drops when you turn it off.

Tivo allows you to opt out of providing your viewing data.
  19. General DISH™ Discussion
I think the networks want to keep their news departments credible, CBS and ABC don't have a cable news outlet like NBC does. Then there are the affiliates who like people to watch their local news so if a network decided not to cover election day I would not be surprised to see the local news...
