I don't believe that the hard drive diagnostics are particularly comprehensive. From the time that I got my HS17, I had problems with video dropouts particularly on 4K and premium VOD recordings. Diagnostics said that the hard drive was fine. After the first drive (Fantom -...
  2. Sirius XM General Discussion
I realized that the primary cause of a show not picking up where I left off is if a episode ends during a listening session and then advances to the next episode, the memory doesn't keep track of the fact that I am now listening to the newer episode (I don't automatically delete episodes when...

In the future, if you have a similar problem, try disconnecting the external hard drive and run with the internal hard drive for a little while before calling DirecTV. I recently had a similar problem with my HS-17 that has an esata port and the problem was the external drive, not the HS-17 itself.

So far, I hate the new app. I use it to download the Bennington Show and listen in the car. About 50% of the time, when I get in the car, the show restarts at the beginning, rather than picking up where I left off. I haven't been able to figure out all the causes. But one that I'm pretty...
  5. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
One of the few mistakes that I made when doing my last remodel was not running coax and Ethernet to all rooms where it was suddenly easy to do so because the walls were opened up. While things in those rooms work, they don't work as well as they do in the rooms that are wired. Of the "I wish I...

When I had similar problems, it was because the hard drive was dying. In my case, it was an external drive connected vie eSATA. Mine eventually got to the point that everything froze. After multiple reset and clearmybox attempts, disconnecting the external drive solved my problem...

Thank you for posting the solution once you found it. Nothing drives me more crazy than having a problem, searching the internet and finding someone who had the exact same problem, who then figures out the solution and just posts something like "thanks everyone. I solved the problem", without...

For the most part, you are best off buying "certified" HDMI cables. These aren't necessarily expensive cables. Certification just means the the HDMI organization has tested that specific model/length and has determined that it meets the advertised specs. Buying a certified cable isn't a...

I wonder if it has to do with some type of pop-up blocker. After being transferred to the DirecTV account page, a few seconds goes by and a pop-up window should appear saying that they are offering a $10 credit with an Accept/Decline option. After accepting, then the $10 credit appears. If...

In 2018, DirecTV and Dish paid the FCC over $113 million between the two of them. That's a total. Not just for spectrum rights.

With commercials. Just like they do when people watch their programming over the air. When it comes to broadcast stations, cable & satellite companies are merely a substitute for a good antenna. They ensure that people everywhere in the DMA are able to get a good picture. What's next...

The US government gives TV companies free broadcast spectrum worth millions (if not tens of millions) of dollars for free. In exchange those broadcast TV companies are subject to some rules and regulations. I would suggest that, beyond any additional costs directly associated with providing...
  13. DIRECTV General Discussion
The "one of my minis seems a bit flaky" issue is the only reason why I would consider converting to a Gemini. Since you already have the FireTV devices on all of your TV's, unless you are planning on replacing one of those TV's with a 4K model (or one is already a 4K model with an HD mini...

Although the dish is on the edge of the roof, it's pretty high up there. I'm not going up there to do that and the tech wasn't about to do so when changing the connector on the cable solved the problem. When he came down, he said "I got lucky. It was just a corroded connector. Changing that...

Same. I lost all of the 103 Even channels. I have an old, 4 wire LNB and a SWM 16. It turned out that one of the connectors was corroded. The tech changed it and I'm getting a signal strength in the high 90's now.

I think I'm about to attribute my problems watching College Football in 4K to a cable problem that was developing. Last month, I returned from the hospital after knee replacement surgery in time to watch the College Football Championship. When I turned it on, I had a 771 error. So, I watched...

I have this problem when my C61 is connected to my LG TV via my Denon AVR. The problem occurs when the pause "commercials" activate. Since connecting the C61 directly to the TV and using eARC for DirecTV audio, my problem has gone away. When I was having this problem, toggling the TV to a...

I've never tried using my 4700 for upscaling. But I had different problems between my C61/Denon 4700/LG C1. Once I converted from an HR44 to the C1, I started having problems with the "commercials" that would display when I paused something. Most of the time, I got a message on the screen...

I'm not sure how to describe it and I can't speak for NFL games. I only watch college football. I guess the best way to describe the problems as drop outs or quick freezes. Sometimes it's just audio and other times it's both audio and video. Surprisingly, sometimes, there will be a freeze...

I disagree. The big difference is that they are shooting in HDR. IMO, the big improvement between HD and UHD is the HDR (or any of the "flavors" of HDR (Dolby Vision, HDR+, etc...)) more so than the increased resolution. The first UHD TV that I had was "HDR-ready", which was really a BS...
