  1. Gaming Fun - The Other Reality
No one has mentioned the most popular game in its genre and maybe across all types..World of Warcraft.

Be careful with fireproof safes...if you have a fire any HD in it will probably be destroyed. A fireproof safe generally becomes a very nice wood burning oven during a fire....good for pizzas not so great for valuable contents :).

How'd it go? We now have Windows 7 running on seven computers here with no reported problems...other than it reporting there's a new version of Firefox when there isn't. I'd also recommend the new Microsoft Security Essentials for your A/V.
  4. DIRECTV General Discussion
The term "rain fade" has been around longer than DirecTV and cable suffers from it too as they receive a lot of the content they distribute through satellite feeds.
  5. General Satellite Discussion
"bust" should have been "but". I guess you're focusing too much on starting an argument than reading things in context. I'm sure you've never had a typo. I'm not sure who your last sentence is meant for. It appears though the surveys only count to you when DirecTV is on top...if not they're...

Same here in South Florida...oh, you mean Fahrenheit. :)

They have those today, they're called the Apple Macintosh, Sony Playstation and/or Microsoft XBox 360. I'll pass on any computer I need to depend on being anything like the current DirecTV receivers.
  8. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Well, it is possible for a local hardware issue to cause a brrrriiip...it's just not the same ones that VOS describes in the thread dedicated to them.
  9. General Satellite Discussion
If you read the report you'd see that it was done on a regional basis. If you think about it, to some extent, all of the providers are regional. Dish uses different satellites for different areas of the country and carries/doesn't carry locals/HD locals on a dma by dma basis. DirecTV is more...
  10. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
What brand of HD is it? The first place to start might be running SpeedFan. This utility is mostly meant for keeping tabs on computer temperatures and fan speeds, but it will give you a report on the SMART data from the HD. I'm sure there are other utilities that do the same, but SpeedFan is...

Here ya go...very solid modem. Comcast approved. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825122003 They're also available on eBay sometimes for less, of course sometimes they're stolen, used, or broken there too. Remember when you get a new cable modem you need to call Comcast...

There's a difference. A terminal didn't do anything but display what the host sent. All of the computing took place on the host. In the modern scheme much of the computing takes place locally with only the data and code stored on the host. The other difference is that terminals were generally...
  13. DIRECTV Programming
Didn't DirecTV send out a press release over a year or so ago saying they were going to carry those channels? You mean they didn't do it?
  14. DIRECTV General Discussion
I think he has a point. Just because a receiver was delivered to DirecTV's refurb company doesn't guarantee by any means that it was "received" and entered into the DirecTV system. A great many companies offer this type of information to their customers.
  15. DIRECTV Programming
The data is not anonymous. They know the receiver ID for every box that calls or uses the internet to share data. As for the other question...it takes very few calls to have statistically accurate information on what's being watched.
  16. DIRECTV General Discussion
MediaShare is still in beta and they advertise that as well.

  18. DIRECTV General Discussion
Liberty Media Corp. expects to complete its spinoff of satellite broadcaster DirecTV as a tax-free deal in November and issue its prospectus for its new Starz tracking stock in a few days. Liberty Media (NASDAQ: LCAPA, LMDIA) has been waiting for a verdict from regulators about whether the...
  19. Tech Talk - Gadgets, Gizmos and Technology
Chrome is certainly fast, but it lacks the customization options that Firefox offers with its vast extension library.
  20. Tech Talk - Gadgets, Gizmos and Technology
Ask the people that use sidekicks about totally depending on "the cloud". There are certainly advantages, but without strong offline options it's not something I'd be interested in.
