  1. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Well, to update, we haven't changed the LNB, though I do have the reverse band ready to go, because we ran all new RG6 cables and, so far, that seems to have fixed it. Will give that a chance and see if it works or not, before we dive into the LNB replacement. I always hate to pull anything...
  2. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
I did a "CLEARMYBOX" which seemed to help, a lot, almost returning the unit to normal working order last week. Still an occasional, but much, MUCH more rare, brief glitch, but definitely watchable again, unlike the every 2-3 minutes drop outs I was having. But as time has gone it seems to be...
  3. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
That's a good question, and something I haven't tried, mostly because we rarely use whole-home, though it is enabled. I'll test it out and let you know.
  4. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Thank you! That's what I needed to know. Can I use my existing splitter and power inverter (from the SWM16), or does the newer LNB require, or do better with, different equipment?
  5. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
OK, so will it work with my set-up (1 Genie HR54, 4 additional HD-DVRs, one of which could be removed if needed)? Will I still use the SWM16 and, if I don't, I'm a little confused about how the cabling will now work. Thanks for any advice.
  6. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
OK, understood, just trying to call it what it was listed as, in order to see if it's what worked for the OP and might fix my very similar issue, and whether it will work with my existing set-up (slimline dish, 1 HR54, 4 additional HD DVRs, could be cut to 3) ... I'm talking about this LNB...
  7. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Not sure if the OP will see this or not, but after about a year of using our Genie (HR54), it seems to have developed the same issues. See full details here: Pixelation on HR54 ONLY Wondering if this is the new LNB -- DIRECTV SWM5-21 Tuner UltraHD LNB -- you received? And did it also remove...
  8. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
It's not on a splitter; just directly connected to one of the SWM outputs and I did switch the "legs" of the SWM, and even the SWM switch itself, to see if that was the problem, with no dice. The distance between the SWM in the attic and the receiver is pretty far, so I don't think I can try the...

Swapped positions with another receiver. Yes, using AVR, but that's not the weak point, as it happened regardless. Thanks for the idea though, forgot to mention that.
  10. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
So, we've got 5 DVRs, including an HR54 added about a year ago. Our system is a SWM16 with one side dedicated to the HR54 and the other feeding other 4 receivers with a 4-way splitter. Two or three weeks ago we started getting intermittent pixelation on all channels, but ONLY on the Genie...
  11. DIRECTV Connected Home
OK, got it. Bought an $11 all-in one DECA unit off of Amazon, that looks very different than the DECA system we used to have (this one is USB-powered, for one and listed as a "Gen3 DIRECTV Broadband DECA Unit"), plugged it into a sat cable and ethernet into TV and, boom, passed the MoCA test...
  12. DIRECTV Connected Home
Mine are on brand new, 2016 model TVs. So, I guess I'm back to the these questions ... So, the DECA needs to be attached to the Ethernet port of the TV, correct? But if you don't have a head unit connected to your Router & SWM it won't get Internet ... Is that accurate? Does it require an...
  13. DIRECTV Connected Home
Thanks. Dumb that 4k TVs with RVU don't actually get 4K programming. Thanks for telling me though, that makes this all a lot easier. (In that, there's no need to do it.)
  14. DIRECTV Connected Home
Got it, that makes more sense. I was talking about "activation" solely with DirecTV, registering the RVU as an additional receiver. So, the DECA needs to be attached to the Ethernet port of the TV, correct? But if you don't have a head unit connected to your Router & SWM it won't get Internet...
  15. DIRECTV Connected Home
Except my understanding -- and correct me if I'm wrong -- is that this can not be activated without DECA installed. Sorry if I'm being my confusion, not my intention.
  16. DIRECTV Connected Home
    Yes.
  17. DIRECTV Connected Home
Thanks. I knew I'd have to pay $7/month, and was never trying to get around that, my point was why they made you use the DECA, when you could easily just activate it yourself, call DirecTV and add it to your account. Easy for them, easy for me and saves DirecTV money on an unnecessary service...
  18. DIRECTV Connected Home
Does the HR54 count as a "client" or do you have to have a Genie mini somewhere? (All our connected receivers are DVRs; no minis.) We have the DECA system, but have never used it because it seemed to screw up our home network. I'm reading on other forums that you can activate the built-in RVU...
  19. DIRECTV Connected Home
Confused. How do you hook DECA to TV? There isn't a DirecTV input. Sorry, maybe I'm just being super dense.
  20. DIRECTV Connected Home
TV is connected via ethernet to the same network as all of my receivers. We have Whole Home.
