  1. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Any chance they only appear after watching the VOD informational video? I clicked on that for the first time last night... :(
  2. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Just saw them for the first time about an hour ago today... I suspect there is no way to turn them off?!?
  3. DIRECTV SD DVR/Receiver Discussion
I fought the HDVR2s locking up for the past 13 months. Finally gave up after all kinds of resets and even a new hard drive in one of them. :( Caved in - now I have an HR-20 for HD and an R15 for SD. Those HDVRs were flawless until a year ago and I sure did not want to give up my TiVo based...

Thanks - that gave me hope, and I just got it! Here was my problem. After getting the R15 into RF mode, I followed the on-screen guide for programming the RC64R to my TV and stereo. However, as soon as I switched the remote to AV1 or TV, then pressed mute+select, the R15 gave me an error on...

Thanks, though I do understand that part. I am hoping I can operate the R15 via RF and the TV via IR at the same time. Seem to be having problems, setting the R15 for RF, then trying to program the TV code. Thought maybe I cannot do both?

Thanks for the reply and Edmund reference. Sadly, we had about 4" and schools are closed all over the Puget Sound area! Stay warm!!! :D

Thanks Supramom! I did see that thread and saw the part about the IR vs RF on the R15 box. I thought it was addressing how to make the R15 respond to both IR and RF, but I was not sure if the use of IR for the TV was addressed. I am going to try that reset to get back to IR, and see if it...
  8. DIRECTV SD DVR/Receiver Discussion
I have my R15-500 in RF mode controlled by an RC64R. I use RF so I can change channels in front of TVs in other rooms that use this receiver's feed. But when I am in front of the TV at the R15's location, I would like to be able to control that TV with the remote via IR signal. Every time I...

Just to add to CheeseHead's experience, I had the same problem last night... new R-15 machine, unable to activate, 0% software download. Let it try several times and no luck. Will have to try calling for activation again tonight, but so far, nothing. Side note, the customer service rep said...
  10. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
Yes, my window is narrow due to trees, and I aim right over the neighbor's house. I put the dish closer to the fence and trees (to the sides) to get 'under' them, and a taller pole to get a view 'over' the house. :) I was also lucky, the neighbor was very nice... she didn't care that the dish...

I also had a narrow margin for my line of sight. The sunshine aim method really worked well for me to determine the elevations. For the azimuth, someone suggested www.dishpointer.com and it really helped. I was able to move the location right to where I wanted to place the dish, then look at...

For me, RG6 solid copper core... 250' worked. I ended up figuring out how to cut down the length, but for a couple weeks I was able to use 250' runs (x4) and there were no problems.
  13. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
I estimated about a 200' need to reach my dish on a pole in the yard. I originally took a 1000' roll of solid copper core RG6 and split it into four 250' sections. (Mainly because it was easier to split it into four equal lengths.) Everything worked, even at 250', but as stated here there was...

I am really happy with this simple solution. I even went back and cut the ABS pipe down so it is the same length as the dish sleeve... it's hardly noticable now. :)

    1. (No problems with the pipe version.) 2. Plumbing section. Home Depot here even sells 2' and 3' lengths, so you don't have to buy an 8' piece. 3. Hack saw. Utility knife probably will not work.

I think that will be my next step if this doesn't work. Thanks!
  17. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, that tall of a pole is necessary. I was lucky to find the signal from anywhere on my property now that I have the 5LNB. I have a small area, maybe a circle 5' in diameter, where I can see between the neighbors' houses. I ordered the long monopole and I...

Having the East and West coast network channels was great, but my locals come in (both SD and HD) via the satellite, so it's not really doing much for me anymore.
  19. DIRECTV General Discussion
I have waivers from a long time ago... long before the days of HD. No chance D* would simply give me the distant HD versions as well?
  20. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
I did try that... eye bolts, galvanized wire, turnbuckles so I could tighten them. I anchored each end so the wire was in a straight line and even at high tension, the pole still moved. I tried a lesser angle and it pulled the pole out of plum. :(
