One other thing to be aware of is the number of streams a DVR can output. It's mentioned earlier in the thread but not fully explained. A traditional 2 tuner DVR can only supply 1 stream. A genie 5 tuner DVR can supply 3 streams. A DVR or HD receiver will use a stream while watching a...

Given the issues with powering the dish, too long of lines is a possible issue. It depends on the output of the LNB, but I would expect you to have to exceed 200ft before that would be an issue. It could be the opposite issue as well, though unlikely. It seems BBCs don't play well with signals...

The AIM also has an in line test where it can measure voltage under load.

I think you're referring to the 3/16/11 tech tip. At that time the H24-700s had received a software update that caused them to fail to get signal with any SWM, and that was the tech tip that instructed us to swap to a legacy LNB to force a download to the fixed software.

If your power inserter is in the family room and will be unhooked, it would need to be relocated and the arrangement on the splitter reconfigured. If you don't need access to the recordings on the 24, placing the 44 in the 24's location and unhooking the 24 is the simplest solution. If you...
  6. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
Over the last few years DirecTV has been removing the manufacturer logo from their small parts and using a 2 digit dash code to designate the manufacturer. What manufacturer is designated by what number has been a curiosity of mine for some time. Recent discussions over LNB manufacturers makes...

The dish should be 10ft away from any overhead power. If you have a tech out and he follows safety policy that old dish would be left alone and a new one placed in a safer location.

I'm not sure who makes the -14 either. -03 is made by Zinwell I believe. We only got the very occasional batch in of -14, not enough for me to really form an opinion on.

IIRC 4 years ago D12-100s had a software issue that made them not play nice with Zinwell LNBs, so there is at least precedent. I'm not sure what Jordean is referring to about historical problems with the H24-700s. I don't remember seeing a blast facts on it. Though right now we are swapping out...

I'm not sure what their testing procedures are, but it isn't until they hit the field that they are truly tested. When this latest revision was released we were putting in the WNC(-01) version of the SWM3 LNB. The first 3 months worth of batches had signal strengths 5 - 10 points below the...

This would be the first winter that revision has been put to the test.

Those LNBs are interchangeable. DirecTV model numbers follow a pattern: Part Revision - Manufacturer Here the part is SL3K4N. The revision is designated by R#. This is not necessarily consistent between manufacturers. -01 is manufactured by WNC and -02 is manufactured by Probrand/Eagle Aspen...

Looks like your hardware questions have mostly been answered. If it comes to a tech install, you may run into a few issues. Hopefully your dish is accessible from a ladder, if not a tech is not likely to climb onto the roof in winter due to safety. He would need to get to the dish if the...
  14. DIRECTV General Discussion
DirecTV has never had an approved tripod for use with a 2" mast. The previously approved tripods would only support 18" or 18x20" ODUs. Those ODUs now use a 2" mast. You will not find anything that says "Tripods are not approved". DirecTV only white lists approved materials. A search on the...

There's a difference between a field beta and a launch. Are you sure you're using the right word?

That type of boot loop can be caused by a tuner hardware failure. This would show up as code 11 in a system test if it was ran before reset. FWIW I get about 1 HR34 a week DOA from a code 11 failure. I've never had a new HR24 give a code 11.

To add more information: A transponder is just a downlink frequency range. Each transponder can hold a number of channels. The difference between multiswitch and SWM is how the signal is organized. A multiswitch Ka/Ku system breaks the signal coming from the satellites into 4 parts. There are...

The ability for the HR34 to act as a bridge is not communicated to the techs. Even if the tech knows of the ability, the lack of an official ok might cause some techs to avoid it.

BBCs are not required with an 18x20. Of course nothing would be HD anyways.
