Yeah a cable set type box like posted above would be the way to go. I have used a handful of them and they can be pretty terrible on picture quality so you may need to try a few different ones. We have a couple properties doing QAM like this and it is pretty uncommon that a TV built in the last...

Thanks for the recommendations on the Hauppauge 1212, I am kind of leaning towards their PCI Exp card Colossus. The more I read about the Avermedia card the less desirable it looks, and seems to get worse the longer you own it. I have always heard good things about Hauppauge and it seems like...

Yeah, my plan was NOT to use HDMI (this will remain the output for watching the receiver directly), but to use a component output for the capture card. Just curious if anybody had done this and could comment on watching the "stream" as opposed to recording from it. I know sometimes the software...

Looking for something to replace Directv2PC, the program lost activation on me last week and has been a pain to use for some time. I really don't want to record per se (since I would use the DVR for that), but would like something that would run in a window preferably that was resizeable and can...

Always love when I find this out for the first time when playing a DVR recording and it's WAY too late to improvise an antenna. Thanks Raycom/Directv And before replying with "It's not their fault" I KNOW, it's mine.

I guess it affects everybody differently. I had Bellsouth when I first got cell service then it changed to Cingular and now it's been AT&T for some time. I honestly can't say I saw any difference in those changes. But I guess it's like Obamacare, some people were adversely affected, some not at...

Probably overkill and too expensive for 8 units but I have done work for a company that uses this to controll many receivers over the Internet via IR: http://www.headend-remote.com/

That is what I meant as well.

We have many hotel installs with RG11 at those distances and greater to confirm you are correct. Hell some of these cables are probably +15 years even.

This. The regulators inside the power supply will take care of over/under voltages.

Is Directv upset because "anywhere" actually means anywhere and not just the vicinity of your router's wifi range.

Yay! Another dispute where the paying customer loses. Meanwhile non paying customers are not affected. Don't you love pay tv!

With splitters input and output generally dont have a direction in relation to (input to output) or (output to input) particularly when its just one input and one output like your scenario. Going from output to output would be problematic as these connections are the most isolated from each...

There has got to be something ironic about that statement when its Google you are talking about being the competition. This may be one of those be careful what you wish for moments.

Certainly a dish mounted to a solid tower will not be a problem you may have to come up with your own bracket to attach it.

You mention it works TV, you sure its just not in TV mode? If not put in TV mode and see if ch up and down work on the TV (will probably have to be on the tuner input of TV). Could be if its an RF/UHF remote that the water has only killed that part of it.

While it may be higher than some other MDU operators but I would imagine that most of the $50 per receiver charge is the expansion of the swm distribution system inside those enclosures. SWMs, taps, amps, power supplies etc...

How do you like it overall? How do the images look at night vs. day, does it switch into black and white for low light conditions?

You would have better choices in IP cams if you omit the wireless being built into the camera if you want decent quality, especially for something going outside. You can add whatever wireless radio you like to any wired IP cam to make it wireless. Dennisj00 brings up some good brands in both...

Is it possible what they think they are calling a tripod would be actually called a "non penetrating roof mount". Certainly no dish would be ballasted by a single concrete block. Most nprm look like tripods and are ballasted by multiple blocks depending on the location.
