I have two DVRs in my house. I have a DirecTV AT-9 dish with a Zinwell WB68 Wideband 6x8 Multiswitch. Only 4 of the input and output ports on the Multiswitch are being used.

On both the living room and bedroom DVRs, one tuner has stopped working. The living room DVR is an HR-24. The bedroom DVR is an HR20-700.

What can I do to see if the problem is the multiswitch or the dish? I don't mind swapping wires around on the multiswitch. I just want to rule stuff out. If I can also get it working again, all the better, of course.

Note, 6 output wires, but only 4 are in use.

You wrote you have only two DVR's. So where do they other 2 lines go? They and port 7 should be terminated like port 8.

It's been years since I had Zinwell in use, actually have a new one in the closet that I just looked at.
But if I remember correctly, you can take the 4 lines from the dish and run each one to each input of the two DVRs. Put a barrel connector in between. If each tuner starts working then you have a good LNB.

Unused ports on the 6x8 should be "capped" not "terminated"

I would start by disconnecting the cables from the switch. look for corrosion inside the connectors.

The other 2 lines are going to the Living Room, but unterminated. I had 2 DVRs in the living room for a brief time.

Good tip for the barrel connector. I'll give it a shot.

    New info:
Ok, so, both tuners on my living room DVR seem to be working right now, with no change to the system. So I guess I have an intermittent problem? Or, is it possible that I can only get certain channels on one tuner?

Is there a document somewhere that describes how it works?

Ok, just switched to a different channel, and I got the "Searching for signal on Satellite in 2... (771)" message.

Channel 248 works on that tuner.
    Channel 247 does not.

Good point. The picture shows 3 terminators.
Just opened the new Zinwell WB68 box and it specifically states no terminators on the inputs. Get them off the Flexports.
Manual says overheating may occur with terminated inputs.

    Outputs are optional.

Ok, more info. It seems that the tuners aren't the issue. After going through the signal strength displays, it seems that the tuners both work the same. It is just certain satellites or transponders that are 0.

    I'm in Massachusetts.

Is it normal to have every other transponder on 103(cb) be 0?

Also, 99c and 99s are both straight zeros. And so is my local programming...

I've uploaded a bunch of photos of my signal strengths to my Flickr page.

Nope and the readings are too low.
    You need a service call.

Guess this stuff isn't meant to last 7 years. I'll give them a call. Thanks!

Amazingly, I got an appointment for tomorrow night 4 to 8. Almost feel bad for making a guy work on the 4th. Almost. :) If it wasn't me, it would be someone else.

I may check for corrosion in the multiswitch terminals in the morning. I did notice that some of the rubber grommets were split.

Not only that, but some of the cables what no "drip loops" which can lead water right into the connectors.

Well, I called up DirecTV, and the first tech to come out didn't have the LNB to fix it. But he suggested that I call up and see if I can get an HR34 "Genie" for free. So I did, and the install was the next day (this morning). Got a new Slimline dish and an HR34 plus network connection kit installed for free (plus tip).

Now I have an HR34 and HR24, Slimline SWiM dish and I can finally get rid of the HR20-700!

So, all's well that ends well. Thanks for the help, guys!
