Then do as Ken suggested and set up series links for shows that he has outlined.

Those same shows are an issue on Nick 1 (see my posts in the Blues Clues thread). Post your results and see if we can figure out what is different (if yours ends up recording).

Hahaha. I've never seen the Hills. But I'm just waiting for XZibit to make a guest appearance on Jacks Big Music Show. I was shocked to see Buddy Guy on there about a week ago.

As he should be vocal. Why not try being helpful and set up a couple of series links for the shows listed. It's a bit amazing that many (but not all) of the most vocal proponents of the HR20 have buried their heads in the sand and stayed away from the Blue Clues thread.

Your assumption would be wrong. There were no self-canceled episodes in the tally. I checked each one for that as it was a possibility by someone else.

I have no interest in talking about cancellations on the R10 or any other unit than the HR20.

    Lewis,

I haven't seen any episodes where the log says canceled (13) and there was an episode recorded at that time. I will look for that happening more closely going forward and report it if it happens.

Like I said on what I have seen so far, it looks like some of the (13) errors are phantoms from the To Do List that are not validated until the system tries to record the show. They definitely shouldn't be there though. In my case, my HR20 has been trying to record Max & Ruby at 11AM apparently every day. Every day at 11AM it throws a (13) error, but then successfully records at 1PM when the show is actually on.

I've never really tracked this to this level of detail before so now I'm going to check every day to compare the guide to the To Do List and then the history from the days recordings. I added in the same Blue's Clues SL that you have on Noggin as well to track it at the same time. As of right now, the To Do List on my HR20 matches the guide (Blue's Clues at 11AM, and Max & Ruby at 1PM). The big question tomorrow is whether both shows record, and whether or not there is a spurious (13) error.

If all is working, then I will add in some of the other SLs that you had on your list to see if maybe there's a critical mass issue. The one exception will be Thomas & Friends as I know from experience that the guide rarely ever matches the times they show that show on Sprout. Don't know what the deal is with that.

2 that you noticed, but isn't it possible that you missed more that you didn't notice. I think it is likely unless you record very few things and know specifically what should be recorded and when for all those things (which, if that is the case you probably don't need series links and could easily use manual recordings).

I have confirmed that sometimes the errors occur and the show still gets recorded. This is yet another thing that needs to be fixed because it is pretty much false reporting in the history that needs to be cleaned up.

    Lewis,

Don't waste your time with Thomas. It's impossible to record unless you pad about 15 minutes on either side. Not sure who is at fault there...that's a case where buying a few DVDs at Costco was a lot simpler.

Try the MTV SLs...they're by far the most problematic.

I have the same experience here... I have a bunch of kids shows, though not Blues Clues or Max & Ruby that Ken has been talking about.

I just went through my history and the only (13) errors I had appear to be situations where the guide data changed... For example, yesterday morning at 5:00am, I have 3 entries for Pooh & Friends, 2 were the error (13) and one was actually recorded. All three had different information with regards to title, description, etc... The two with errors - one seems to have a partial description, one is missing the episode title. The third entry, which did in fact record and is viewable (I just checked), has episode title and complete description...

I also have a few cancelled recordings of Everyday Italian, but those are all instances where I have conflict in the morning and it cancels the conflicting recording and picks up a replay later in the day.

I'm going to set up a SL for blues clues and see how that goes... I show 1 showing daily on Noggin at 9:00am... we'll give it a few days and see how many record and how many - if any - are missed.

Those are next in the list assuming things go well today. My goal is to add things systematically to keep the "noise" in the history down.

We record the Real World here, and I know it's messy, but that's always been messy. About every other month either my wife or I cancel the SL and resort to manually setting up the episodes we want, but we had to do the same thing on our Tivo and even UTV so that's not unusual. In the case of The Real World though we end up with way too many shows being actually recorded so it's a different sort of issue.

Based on one of the other threads (link to page 7) http://www.dbstalk.com/showpost.php?p=1190966&postcount=149
I've set up series entries for Blues Clues, The Hills, and Newport Harbor on side-by-side DVRs

As stated in that thread, so far no issues.
HR20-100 NR software, and R15-500 (current CE release) - Eastern Time Zone.
I will leave them up for as long as someone wants to collect data - but it would be helpful to have one data collection thread...........

    dbmaven,

I showed some non-recordings and cancellation notices on the Hills and Newport Harbor yesterday evening. I'm not at the TV right now so I can't give exact times.

If someone wants to start a data collection thread I'd contribute as well. Although I think by now there really is enough data to document and replicate the issue. I know Earl is good about relaying requests from information from DirecTV.

I also have a feeling the extended error information in the latest CE release means someone might be looking at the issue. If that's the case and any additional information is necessary they know where to look :)

You can add these shows to the list as well. Both have been a complete pain to record recently (last three months).....Error code (13) partially recorded due to a change
    Star Trek: Enterprise (ch 79HDN)
The Avatar: The Last Airbender (ch 302 NKTN)
    Homocide: Robbery Division (ch 79HDN)

I did notice that the guide listings for Enterprise and Homocide are generic show info, nothing specific regarding episode. Is it possible that these get updated during recording and are cancelled?

Wow. Miss a day around here...

    Ken,
I hope you are right about the extended info in history. Perhaps that is the latest step in trying to get this issue solved, once and for all.

    Lewis,
Thanks a bunch for jumping in and trying to get some good data on this issue. If you sense some frustration in Ken's (or my) posts, please try to bear with us, as we have been dealing with this for months and months. Fresh eyes almost always help.

Also, as to your theory regarding the "phantom" entries in the to do list:

This is definitely something that happens; as in the schedule for a program changes, but the scheduler already has those shows scheduled out for the next ~two weeks. Those, now phantom, to do list entries stay in the to do list even though they will never record, and will go into history with an error 13 when their time comes.

This issue can greatly confuse the data gathering for the error 13's that happen "on the fly" for a program that actually airs at the scheduled time, but fails to record. I have seen a few users that were trying to help notice the "phantom" entries issue, and assume that this is the case for all the canceled recordings that we have been documenting, assume that we are crazy :icon_stup , and then move on.

This is a separate issue, and not inclusive of the entire set of error 13's that we have seen.

Anyway, Lewis, thanks again for your help!

    Well the mystery deepens....

I have checked today's recordings, and have a very weird problem.

The good news is the Blue's Clues recording at 11AM on Noggin with no errors and no issues. the bad news is that despite being in the To Do List this morning, Max & Ruby did not record at all and there are no errors.

This officially enters a whole new level of weirdness. After showing weeks of Max & Ruby trying to record at 11AM and throwing error 13's every time, but then catching the show at 1:00PM we have now for the first time had Max & Ruby not record.

I checked for tomorrow and have both shows in the To Do List, and they are set to record appropriately. I am going to wait until tomorrow before changing anything.

Assuming I see the same results tomorrow, I am going to remove the Blue's Clues SL and see what happens Wednesday....

As I mentioned in one of my earlier posts... My first response to this thread was to blow it off, but I gave Ken the benefit of the doubt and looked at my own history before doing that. I found my own concerns with all of the error 13's in my log so I am trying to take a very methodical approach to this.

At the end of the day I think it will be more beneficial than just throwing everything in at once. I've spent a long time doing development work and I always believe in gradual additions to try and ascertain the full nature of a problem.

My general thoughts are beginning to coalesce around 1 basic problem. It appears that the HR20 never, ever takes the To Do List and does a purge and rebuild on it. Given the nature of the guide data this is something that I would think the system would want to do on a daily basis. Some of this issue might come from the fact that D* has modified the box to cache the guide and scheduler data so that any recordings pick up right away if the HR20 ever reboots.

I don't know, but there's an issue somewhere. My first thought is the quick and dirty.... "Every evening after 10PM look for a 1 hour gap in recordings and purge the entire list and start over".... It's not pretty, but it's kind of like a preventative server reboot.

    Lewis,

Part of what gets really frustrating is we have to make so many guesses about what they're doing. In other forums it wouldn't be unusual for there to be some information on what is happening. It certainly would make finding errors or logic flaws easier.

I agree completely. I am just completely baffled by what I saw today though. I also can't believe that D* can't simply kick off a process in the box to rebuld the scheduler list from time to time.

Well, after a pretty good run, no Blue's Clues for me today.

    299 - NIK1 - Monday 10/8 - 9am MDT. Here's the debug info:

    Code:
This episode was not recorded because the program was
no longer available. (13/3/Go, Diego, Go!: Safari Rescue
    expected cid: 1 1 2E440 BF found cid: 1 2 32FD3 0
expected PO ID: 2182248 found PO ID: 4164649)
Also posted in the dedicated thread in the CE forum.
