2010 NFL ST pricing

    Good deal. Also, I suggest first asking the retention CSR about the premier/NFLST deal. Say you heard about it and would like to get it. 99% chance you'll get turned down on that deal, but don't get mad, just sound a bit disappointed. Explain that you never considered NFLST until you saw that deal and now you are somewhat interested in it if the price is right and see what they can do.

    Just a suggestion (I think it's better than just asking what they can do for you). I also suggest holding out for a female retention CSR, even if it mean you have go through the dialing and automated voice prompt process several times. I think female retention CSR's are the best and give out the most.

    So they auto-renewed my ST..which I knew would happen. And the 1st payment has been paid. Can I still call and cancel ST since the season hasn't started? Or threaten to cancel to get a better price and the On-the-Go for free?

    Okay. I was successful in getting ST for $170. I have been watching this thread on here and threads from other web forums in regards to scoring ST with DTV. I called every other day the past 2 weeks, getting just the regular CSR. I simply ask if the Redzone Channel is available by itself and am willing to subscribe to it. They kept saying no and try to sell me the ST for full price. I politely decline, and hang up. During the calls they make notes in my file about my interests in the RZC.

    Yesterday, while on my lunch break, I called and used the forementioned 'cancel' option as other posters have stated here in this forum. I get the retention CSR, and I tell him that I am not trying to cancel, I am very interested in getting the ST and if there are any specials running since there are various forums on the internet where subscribers are getting certain specials. He pauses, and says that he notice that I have been a long time customer, even though I have never subscribed to ST. (Been with them for 18 months now) Also states that he sees in my customer profile that I have been asking about the RZC. Says he can offer me one of two things. RZC by itself as a complimentary gift, or ST for one time charge of $170.

    Anybody try calling the movers hotline and schedule a move to get the premiere special and just cancel the move later on? I would but all ready received a 150 dollar credit and free to go. I also got 20x6 and 10 off for two years. Worth a try. Also it is true that the females seem to give it away easier. LOL

    Well it took me 2 calls to CSR central and on the second call instead of going thru all the automated phone choices only to be told no deals were to be had just the advertised price, I just said cancel on my second call. Got sent straight to a human voice a nice chap named A.J. I asked him if there where any promotions going on for ST right now and I got the $20 x 6 offer so I was happy with that. Good luck to y`all in your quest for the best deal.

    Finally after 7 calls total and 4 to retention I was able to get the 20x6 deal. Only been with Direct for 6 months and have a look of new cust. discounts already. She would not budge on the To-go deal and i really dont need ot.:):)

    Made 1 phone call. Said "cancel" at voice prompt. Been a customer for 1 year. Did not have nfl package last year. Told the guy I was interested in the package if he could help me out. Told him I saw internet people getting a 1 time credit of $160. Asked him if he could do that for me.

    He said he would have to "ask" someone. After 5 minutes he comes back, best he can do is $100 instant credit plus free nfl computer to go package. Told him I will take it, and $100 credit is allready posted to account. I allready have the $20 times 6 months credit deal. Both nfl ticket and "to go" package now show on account. Pretty easy. He did not acknowledge the red zone stand alone channel.

    well i just called and tried for the second time...no dice...keep getting the BS lines about "ooo youve got HD extra free" "oooo youve got starz free right now" "oo youve got free HD (which EVERYBODY has i keep telling them" and because i am on the 6 month at 20 off...even though that was for dropping cable and had nothing to do with ST...they still keep feeding me the bs even though plenty of people on here have all those credits, yet those people also got one time credits from 100-200 dollars as well to sign back up...its ridiculous. i am going to call next week and keep dialing retention until a female from Utah answers. The utah reps seem to be the most reasonable.

    Looks like you are going thru what I went thru. I moved from Dish to Directv and I had 2 * $5 for 12 months, $10 friend ref, $10 HD Access for 12 months. when I called them about NFST and they said you already have so many discounts, I said they were due to coming from Dish to Directv but they won't budge. So one night I decided to call and said cancel, Instead of getting RETENTION CSR, I got transfer to Financial dept and the lady put $20 * 6 and HD Access $10 for 2 year as soon as my earlier discounts would expire (Sep 5th most of my discounts are expiring so she gave me confirmation number and said call CSR on sep 5th and ask them to apply it).

    I called few days back to make sure that I'd get those discount and CSR guy told me call us at Sep 5th and you are good to go.

    The female retention CSR's from Salt Lake are good? I'm a big fan of the female retention CSR's in Oklahoma.

    Dude, you are awesome. I called in just now and as Borat would say, GREAT SUCCESS!

    First off, I called and said "Cancel Service". Went straight to FEMALE retention CSR. I said I was calling to get the Premiere/Free HD deal for signing up for Sunday Ticket. She said that deal is for new customers only. So I said "Well, what are you doing for customers that have been with DirecTV for 10 years, like me?" No hesitation, she said she'd give me $20 off current programming for 12 months, plus free Starz and Showtime for 6 months (and no crap about calling in to cancel; they will just drop off when the 6 months is up). So that means I got ST for net $80.

    Only downside was I then said "So with Sunday Ticket, I can watch games on my computer, right?" She said no, that is an extra package that I can get for 6 payments of $9.99. I said that was alright, too expensive for me, and she let it go.

    So maybe I'll try calling back in to see if I can get a deal on ST To Go... It would be cool (especially since I have an Android phone), but honestly I am not sure how much I'd use it, and I feel like DirecTV did me solid by giving me a good deal to sign up for ST.

    Thanks to you all for your tips. Maybe they can work for someone else too!

    You got $240 off NFLST which has a regular price of $320. Very very nice. And Starz/Showtime for 6 months is very nice. And I've had similar stuff (Starz/Showtime), they do drop off. In fact they don't show up as you subbing it, but as you getting it as a promo for free. That's why they drop off instead of becoming an automatic charge.

    Surprised she didn't throw in free to-go. Give it a few days and do the same process and hope to get a female retention CSR. Once you do, essentially play dumb: say you signed up for NFLST, you are excited, but there are going to be several NFL weekends that your wife is dragging you to see in-laws who won't have the game of the team you want to see on. Ask if there's a way to watch NFLST on your phone or a computer. She'll mention To-Go and right then and there might comp you.

    If not, play dumb again and ask how much it is. She'll tell you and you can respond that it is awfully high and you don't think your wife is going to let you add another expense, after all getting her to let you get NFLST was hard enough. Now $50 more for To-Go, just to get out of spending 3 hours of those weekends with the in-laws?

    Something along those lines should work with most female retention CSRs. If not try again. I suspect it's a shoo-in if you draw the Oklahoma Call center (you can tell by the accent), since they are in-tune with football issues and the "silly" men who obsess over it.

    Just one of many ideas, but that's how I would approach it. I got to-go added on free by retention when I subbed to NFLST, used a similar approach (didn't go as far as the in-laws story because I felt I would get it for free, but I would have gone that route if I needed to make separate call and wanted to establish rapport with a different female retention CSR).

    If it's true, all the better. The more sincerity, the better, and it's easier for most people to sound sincere when they are in fact sincere. :D Let us know how it goes.

    I have to calm down a bit before calling back.

    Awhile back, I sent an e-mail asking what the correct price was since I had two e-mails with two different prices and I was also hearing about a lot of folks receiving $20/6.

    Someone responded (you're a great customer blah blah blah) and it said to call in and they would help me.

    So tonight I call. I talk to a real nice person who sounded like she would be helpful, but in the end, she said she had to transfer me somewhere else.

    This turned out to be the ST Dept. What a waste. I'm sorry if I upset the poor girl (no, I didn't use any profane language, but I wasn't too polite either). You see, she tells me I don't have the package so she can't offer me any discount?!?! Wait a minute, I have two e-mails from you stating that I'm being auto-renewed! She looks at the account. "I see where you had the package last year and you received an auto-renewal last year.". No, I have the e-mail right in front of me dated 2010. I'm not that crazy!

    We went back and forth like that for awhile. I finally asked..."Is there anything you can do?". Her DIRECT answer. No, you don't have the package. So I asked her to add it and then check for deals. Nope, that would just be the full price.

    That ticked me off and I said "If you can't give me the 20 dollars for 6 months that so many other people are getting, I don't want it. Cancel it. I refuse to pay that much money for 16 games.". Grant her that she stayed calm, but she didn't diffuse me much when she said "You don't have the package, so the best I can do is keep it from auto renewing.". WHAT?!?! How would something I don't have (which I should) auto renew?

    I decided to end the call and of course had to get one more punch in when she asked if she could help me with anything else. Else? You didn't help me with the first part!

    So I'll call back tomorrow and talk to retention. :)

    Just remember, there's nothing wrong with making your first call be a call to retention. Retention isn't a last resort, it should be the first option.

    Actually threatening to cancel your DirecTV service is more along the lines of a last option. When you decide you want NFLST or want a discount (i.e., calling in to cancel the autorenew), just go to retention directly. Not every retention CSR is great, but it's well known retention has much more flexibility than regular CSRs...so why even bother with regular CSRs?

    At the phone prompts I said "cancel" twice. I presume that sent me to Retention.

    I explained to the representative that I had canceled Sunday Ticket last year because it was too expensive. I asked for the Premiere/Sunday Ticket package, and was told that it was only available to new subscribers or to movers. She did not offer me a fake move, and I did not request one.

    I did not want to pay for Sunday Ticket except under the terms of the Premiere package. So my next request was for stand alone Red Zone. After hinting that I might have to switch to Dish or to cable for stand alone Red Zone, I was offered free stand alone Red Zone plus three months of free Showtime.
