Called Directv today and enquired about a discount on Center Ice. Surprise...surprise, I was able to get it for $100.00 all inclusive. It works for me!

Very cool! Have you accepted any other promos or discounts recently? Did they offer you this deal by applying one-time credits, or did they flat out lower the price to $100?

They could have broken it down, but I chose the one time payment. A month ago, I was able to grab Starz for 3 months free and a discounted Showtime package for $7.00 a month. It pays to call them once a month and see what they have available for Promo's.

Anyone else having a problem scheduling recordings on the NHL Network. It is not part of my normal package but is on for Center Ice.

I can watch it fine. If I try to record anything, it gives an extra step saying do you really want to schedule this since the channel is not authorized.
If I say yes, the recording works fine.

The problem is that I can not set up a season pass for say the Hockey Night in Canada preview show on Saturdays. Nothing gets scheduled.

I have reauthorized my receiver on the website and reset it thru the on-screen menu but no change.

I can see running them every 15-30 minutes. At that point you'll pay attention. The way they are now is nothing but an annoyance running the same crap over and over. I especially love when they tell you what your watching or start posting 2-day old tweets.

Fair point, but the flip side to that is sometimes people (like me!) will see a score in a ticker and decide to switch to that other game BECAUSE I see that it's a close game/getting late in the game/a potential upset, etc.

Absolutely. I do the same thing. But if you're only tuning in to the last few minutes or plays of the other game 1) the original channel running the ticker has kept you tuned in to their channel until that point, and 2) you're likely to return to the original channel once the close game is over -- especially since you feel "invested" in that original game.

I think one danger, though, in running the ticker is I often will see a more compelling game on the ticker and flip to it simply because I'm more interested in that other matchup, and I just forgot it was on or what time it was starting. I usually never end up returning to the original channel in that case.

I think there is also a small argument to be made that running a ticker creates a perception in the viewers' minds that the channel is a "real" sports channel that cares more about sports in general than just the individual game you're watching. This helps to drive the brand as well as things like hits on their website.

Again, I hate them, and like another has stated, if they HAVE to be on, I also would prefer that they run only so often and not continuously. But I guess we can't have our cake and eat it too, as they say.

Newbie question here; Do you think these non CBC HD feeds will go away or at least diminish once the NBA season starts up 2 weeks hence ?

Actually, it appears D* is using TSN-Habs. TSN-Habs is using the TSN-Jets feed though, since there is no need for 2 english language productions. I noticed a news promo commerical for the CTV station in Montreal during the second intermission. I haven't see any local Winnipeg commercials during the breaks, which tells me they are technically using the TSN-Habs feed.

They usually will diminish, but not go away.

They will almost certainly go away. It's called attracting viewers during the free previews and then once you have them signed up...

The other thing that is already starting is that the SD Canadian feeds are drying up. Case in point, there's only the Carolina feed for the Leafs Carolina game on Thursday.

From my experience, the CBC feeds usually remain constant throughout the season. They have dedicated HD equipment for CBC feeds.

Yes, the other Canadian feeds (SNET, TSN, LeafsTV, etc) tend to be much more variable, and also seem to be more susceptible to being cut when there are a lot of games on a given night and there is more contention for the Center Ice channels.

Last night the Phoenix/Ottawa game (Ottawa feed) was only in SD, on Center Ice, but was in HD on Game Center.

To expand on your post, DirecTV has regularly used the following HD feeds from Canada in the last couple of years:

    1. CBC games (typically one early game and one late game on Saturday nights)
    2. Leafs games on SNET-O (but not Leafs TV)

Additionally, if a regional (NOT national) TSN feed for the Jets and/or Canadiens is the only source available for a game, DirecTV tends to pick up the game in HD. They do not, however, use these feeds in most other cases, presumably because of cost (not unlike the CSN Philly situation I posted about earlier).

Beginning this year, DirecTV appears to be adding SNET-P HD for Canucks games as a regular feature. Both eligible games have appeared in HD from that channel to this point, and the next two eligible games (next Tuesday against the Isles and the following Friday against the Blues) both have dual HD feeds listed in the guide. Note that Canucks games on SNET-VAN (such as the one tomorrow against the Sabres) are not included.

Outside of the above, any HD coverage from Canada is a rare bonus, unless and until DirecTV adds dedicated equipment for the other HD sources.

Tonight not even an SD for the Flames feed, just Ducks in HD & SD. GC had them both in HD.

There was a Phoenix HD feed. It was buried on channel 786. The Yotes are on a game by game contract with FS Arizona so I'm guessing that's why it didn't show up in the original schedule. Additionally, there was a Calgary SD feed on Wednesday. It was via TSN on 769..

It is just another case of the Mix channel being incorrect or entries missing from it.
