One issue to watch with the CI games: they can be scheduled for six hours.
Enjoyed last night's games....Hockey is BACK!!!!
Was hoping to see an NHL GameMix channel...Come on NHL, every major sport has one!
I have my dvr set to tape the Islanders pregame show "series" and extend three hours. You might be able to use the word search function and set to automatically record the team. Depends on how common the team name is and how many tuners you have.
I think you're blaming the wrong party. Some other providers have a multi-screen mosaic channel.
OK then,.....Come on Directv, every major sport has one!
The best way I know of to search for upcoming games for a particular team is with a Keyword Search. Select Smart Search, type in the team name (e.g. AVALANCHE), press the Red button, then select Show Type -> Events. This will find all upcoming programs tagged as an event with the team name appearing somewhere in the program data. Each event is listed once in the search results (no matter how many times it airs). When you select an event, the various showing appear, from which you can easily set a recording on whichever channel you like (with extension if desired). You could set an Autorecord based on the keyword search, but I don't recommend doing this because Autorecord might not pick the showing you want (I've even had Autorecord select a replay instead of a live showing when I tested it in the past).
As for selecting the channel to record, I highly recommend setting the recording directly on the RSN channel in the 600's (e.g. channel 681 for Avalanche games). There are three reasons for this:
1. You can be sure to get the feed you want (i.e. if you prefer one team's broadcast over the other).
2. The time blocks on the CI channels in the 700's are 6 hours long instead of the 2.5 hours typically found on other channels.
3. The listings on the CI channels change frequently, and this can cause a recording set on one of those channels to get dropped.
If you do not subscribe to the Sports Pack, many of the RSN channels will be brayed out on the screen. However, you can still set recordings on those channels (they will be in the clear during the actual game, since DirecTV merely remaps the channels into the 700's range to save bandwidth). The DVR might complain, but it should let you set the recording regardless.
Finally, I recommend checking yoru To Do List regularly to make sure everything you set is still there. I have on more than one occasion had to re-set a recording because of a guide update or some other gremlin interfering. As noted above, this is especially a problem when setting recordings directly on the CI channels in the 700's.
Yeah, another great example of the web schedule being inaccurate. It was showing HD on 770 up until yesterday, and now it has been pulled. Meanwhile, the guide was showing 769 SD and 770 HD until last night when only the 769 SD feed was left.
I'm guessing the feed will be TSN (SD) given that they don't carry CSN Philly. Disappointing as usual when it comes to Canadian HD feeds.
Disappointing yes, unexpected no. Hades will freeze over before Comcast does a deal with DirecTV for Comcast Philly. So, no Philly feeds and no TSN feeds in HD. I just wish they would carry ALL of the TSN SD feeds, but they rarely even do that.
I love the TSN broadcasts (commentators, intermission segments, etc), and would certainly choose TSN over most of the US feeds, but it seems like the NHL CI SD quality is just so horrible that I rarely watch them unless it's the only feed available. It always seems to me like watching a regular SD broadcast that has been put through a blender.
I cant believe no flyers in hd tonight
TSN SD is wide screen now
TSN SD is virtually unwatchable.
After being a CI subscriber for 11 years, I canceled my subscription this year, because of the lack of Canadian games in HD is one reason. The main reason is, we travel a lot and while on the road I can get some of my DirecTV programing via my computer, but not my CI games. I have switched to Game Center to eliminate this problem. If DirecTV ever corrects these two issues I will switch back.
It is nice seeing both the flyers and leafs feeds in HD. I can actually see the puck.
Yes, thats why I have both, plus I can watch the games while away from home. Watching the HD feed on my apple TV and it looks fine.
I was just coming to post about this. I was suprised to NOT see a HD feed on CI tonight. I have been going with Gamecenter for the last couple years, but was checking out the free preview of CI tonight. Couldn't take the game in SD so I swapped over to my XBox and watched the TSN feed in HD. The feed looked great too. Much better than what I saw at times last year.
I didn't see the game, so was the game in HD or not?
Not on NHLCI, but they both were on NHLGC.
I cancelled CI yesterday. They'd already gouged me this month for $39.99 with the auto renewel BS. I was shocked they didn't offer me any discounts. I also have the NFL ticket. I received $240 off of my Sunday ticket several weeks ago. I can't watch that garbage on the NHL Network. I may call back after the free preview and see if the price is negotiable.
What is the reason the Flyers-Leafs game was not in HD? Directv already has the uplink for CSN Philly feed that they use sometimes for MLB EI. Bandwidth shouldn't have been an issue yesterday. There were two hockey games on NHLCI, no MLB, no NBA, no NFL.
Totally agree. Plus, in prior years we've received feeds like this during the Free Preview, only to see them disappear down the road. Not a good sign.
