Right or wrong, maybe it would be nice to lighten up a bit. Junkie you might try selling the 6000 on Ebay and activate an 811. Or you could plug one of the 811's in and call up the system info screen. I don't think the unit has to be activated to do that. You've raised a lot of folks curiosity. Peace.

Not really. Lots of us are quite familiar with the 263 version from December/January. It is only information about the supposed "new" versions that would really mean anything.

Yes, that would make a significant difference. If that is true, then they appear to have a newer version of the firmware than is currently downloading publicly. So, if they have the next version, then it certainly may fix various issues.

However, it should be noted that that would NOT indicate a "2nd generation" 811 at all. It isn't a hardware change -- just a software update (of which there have already been several -- and we're not on "5th generation hardware" ;) ). So, if it is true, then they just happen to have a likely-coming-very-soon firmware update...

The only reason I stated 2nd generation 811 is because that is the way I was told. Sorry for the confusion.

Next time you see a new 811 look at the Reg. ID. LADD, is this the same build everyone else has?

Not to step on any one toes but. The easiest ID a newer ird is the reg ID of the reciver, Like RodB had mention

Example there are 3 different modesl of the 301
if you look on the back sticker under model id you will see one of the following
005 ( E* tends to start all of the older recivers with the id of 005)
    010
    013

as new reg id only get issued when there is a hw change inside.
    301.005 - two - two meg tsops
301.010 - same as above just with a fix to actual satellite tuner wher there was a problem with some 005 overheating and the reaciver would lose the signal.
301.013 - modifaction to only allow Yellow cams or higher, mved from 2 two meg tsops to 1 4 meg tsop.

Just of a brief example what dish does in a reg id.

edit: I should note my 811 is early December 03 vintage.

My 811 is exactly the same. I've had it since early December.

We're not sure -- that is what initiated this whole discussion where, at first, he thought that he might have a newer hardware revision even.

That seems unlikely. If 264 was spooling for any range of IDs, someone here would have mentioned it. So, if it REALLY has 264 on it, it appears that it came that way from Dish to the installer. Why? I'm not sure yet.
