i hope i am in the correct forum. i have a hr22-100 receiver, bose home theater system and a vizio led-lcd tv. my question is, directv says it is broadcasting in 5.1 but bose hts indicates the signal is pcm 2.0, which is correct? all of my connections are hdmi.

Depends on two things... On your HR22, under Setup -> System Setup -> Audio -> Dolby Digital, is it ON? Is the station you are watching a Dolby Digital 5.1 station? If both are true, the HR22 will send 5.1 out on the HDMI and Toslink ports

Some TVs won't pass a DD signal. A last resort may be to connect a TOSLINK cable between your DVR and Bose system.

Tune to channel 202 (during program, not commercials).
Try turning Dolby Digital OFF and see if it actually turns on. Thats happened occasionally. Next step is to reboot the DVR.

No, just on the DVR. Sometimes the ON/OFF flag gets corrupted and turning it OFF actually turns it ON.

Is it just me? When I glance at the title for this thread, it reads:

    5.1 or porn 2.0

I think I'm going to stop now before I get a warning.

I can no longer get 5.1 on my HR22/100, only PCM 2.0 is being output.

I called DirecTV and tech department had to send it to the engineers. I never heard back from them so yesterday I called for an update. They told me it's a software issue and I'm not the only one seeing the problem. New software to address the issue is coming at the end of the month.

Again this is what they told me. The tech department sounded clueless so not sure if I believe it or it's a stall tactic. Not happy.

thanks to all for your response. to wizzack i called bose and they told be to add a optical for audio ( i did not have to buy one because one came with the bose hts) and that fixed my problem. you might try doing a reboot on your dvr.

Just noticed same problem on my HR21-200 - I've changed nothing, same setup for a year, used to get 5.1. The HR21 doesn't seem to be passing a 5.1 signal - the receiver says it's a PCM signal. I can get 5.1 from the PS3, so I think the receiver is working. I guess I could swap the cables, but it's late and it's all buried in the cabinet. I'll try tomorrow.

I checked the menu and it's set for Dolby Digital - ON. I tried turning it On/Off, no change.

advice from bose that worked for me. use an optical cable for audio and reboot dvr. worked for me, has something to do with software update because they had a rash of calls about this issue.
