Primey, my guess is that this is what you are paying:

    $53 - AT180 w/ locals
    $3 - two superstations
    $3 - two distant networks
    $5 - second receiver fee
    $5 - DVR fee
$5 - Digital Home Plan leasing fee

    Total $74.

If you go the DirecTV route, and get one DVR and one regular receiver, your programming package will look like this, more or less:

    $46 - Total Choice Plus w/ locals
    $5 - second receiver fee
    $5 - DVR fee

    Total is $51.

AT180 has a few channels that TC+ doesn't have, like Fox Sports Soccer and TMC West 2. If you can live without some of the AT180 channels, then TC+ is probably right for you.

Of course, you could always dump your AT180 to AT120, and dump your supers and distants on Dish, and you'll get to about $58 per month.

Yes, he would certainly have to give up some channels to get down to $51. He would also have to give up the option of the largest selection of HD programming between the two satcos, and accept lower HD PQ. These may not matter to him now (or maybe they do), but might in a few months.
