I can't blame someone who was told by the installer that a PI could be used outdoors, "but" one look at it should cause concern as there isn't any "sealing" to suggest it could be used outdoors.

Out here in So Cal people put all sorts of things outside that shouldn't go there, because it doesn't rain a lot. And then we have a wet winter like the last one and it messes up everyone.

There is no near outlet in the basement where all the cables enter it. Still waiting for the electrician to return. I have them move the PI tomorrow to the cover porch area above the outlet.

DirecTV just called. They're calling back to do it today. Got an appointment with one of many docs. So now to work out something that will work for both of us. And he just confirmed, no PI should be in an outside weather environment.

The PI can be pretty far down the line from the dish... VOS probably knows the actual number but there should be no issue putting it near an outlet and having a DIRECTV tech run a wire there.

Solid Copper Core RG-6 doesn't have a distance issue [well before you lose SAT signal anyway]. I've had 100' between the dish & PI.
Which ever coax/receiver is connected to the power passing port of the splitter [far left port] is what the PI should be connected to and can be very close to the receiver.

It's a time element now. I'm waiting for the Field Tech to call. My doc appointment is at 1:15 PM EST.

So where is the PI now? Hopefully not still outdoors?
