Sorry for the length but it's worth the read:
    (and it's true: http://www.snopes.com/holidays/christmas/rudolph.asp)

I urge you to visit the link above. It's a good story but copyright prevents us from completely reprinting it.

Maybe I am crazy, but the link provided tells the origins of Rudolph with Montogomery Ward's. It does mention Bob May and his daughter, but nothing about the wife or cancer or anything. Can you double check?

"Deeply in debt from the medical bills resulting from his wife's terminal illness (she died about the time May created Rudolph), May persuaded Montgomery Ward's corporate president, Sewell Avery, to turn the copyright over to him in January 1947."

Snopes usually gets their stuff right. Did you miss that line?

Huh? I don't get it  - disappointing - I was all set for a warm and fuzzy.

Where is Paul Harvey when we need him?

Pushing daisies last I heard. (And that status rarely changes.)

It would be interesting to hear him narrate the story behind the story of Rudolph.

Well yeah, I saw that!! But there was nothing about the part Jody started with. That was the only reference to the personal story. I am with Nick, I was looking for a warm and fuzzy.:nono:

Hey guys. Most corporations never ever release the copyright to the actual employee creator. It was worth a bundle. That's the warm and fuzzy. The guy was set for life.
