For those of you tired of the Right/Left politics that want some real world news, I just found an addition...Al Jazeera English followed by Riz Kahn is showing daily on Free Speech TV, channel 348. Its a nice addition to BBC World News. 30 Minutes, SD. 9pm Eastern.

I watch this daily on FTA satellite, but just found it was being shown on DirecTv.

Yeah, I'm sure there's no slant to the reporting on that channel.

Al Jazerra does the best job of anyone of covering natural disasters. But like Russia Today, they now have British reporters getting the digs in the US in their dignified, British accents.

Russia Today is comical. From 9:00 PM on, it is like a socialist Fox News. Watch the rebroadcast of their 9:00 PM show at 11:00 tonight. The clown hosting that show has all these graphs proving the the United States is the worst country in the world.

Have either of you watched it a few times? Don't be afraid, it's not pro-terrorist.

I can only speak for their Internet site, which I do check out regularly, but Al Jazeera does show a bias as to which stories it covers. I can see a political agenda in the assignments. After you accept that, their news reporting seems to be pretty straight forward. I will because at least they are stories I often don't find covered elsewhere.

Al Jazeera English (along with many other global newscasts) also shows on 2183 (Mhz Worldview channel) for those of you with an International (95) dish. I really dig the free programming from around the world.

Give them time. Once Al Jazeera realizes the money to be made with "media hype" they'll be broadcasting opinionated reports like the rest of the news media!

Hmmm...it only shows up for today and Friday, after that the show isn't in the Guide at that time any longer. Nor can I set it as a series, just single recordings. It doesn't show up in a search either (more than the two times noted)

Al Jazeera World News (which may be the subtitled Arabic version is listed on Link TV (Ch 375) and it shows up as a series.

It's a quality channel. Wish the actual channel would show up on DirecTV. They do have live streaming on their site and a dedicated iPhone app.

If you actually want to get news from around the world Al Jazeera English is actually pretty good, as is Russia Today and Mhz. I get all three on my FTA dish. Many PBS stations also have a subchannel now that shows various news shows from these international channels.

I mean, would anyone in the U.S. whose nightly news is full of "what did Charlie Sheen do now" and "Will so and so go to rehab now" it's refreshing to actually get news stories on what is going on in say Sudan or Costa Rica. Something Americans will never see. Do some stories have a "slant"? Maybe, what news channel doesn't. But for straight up news and information about parts of the world most Americans never think of it's a nice perspective to get sometimes that we actually aren't the center of the universe. :)

Al Jazeera, Russia? If I want Bull$hit it's easier to read what Nancy Pelosi has to say!

LOL. Have you actually watched news other then what is spoonfed to you via the networks? Where else would you find out detailed info on some military coup in a country in southeast Asia that literally gets a 30 second blurb on the nightly news (if that) between stores on Lindsey Lohan and Brittany Spears? Open your mind a bit. :D

Bias is one thing. Every person who reports on anything is biased in some way or another.

When the following story appears on that channel, it will merely be "biased" :

Today we received a communication from mass murderer OBL. It, of course, will not be shown. The person who passed it on to us was turned over the the United States Marine Corps and is now in Gitmo where he is being pursuaided to tell where he got it from. Hopefully the chain can be followed all the way to OBL, so he can be tried and executed for crimes against humanity.

Rather than what it today is, which is an outlet that thinks that mass murderers have a "point of view" worthy of discussion.

As a member of The Association of the U.S. Army I get all the "truthful" global reports I want. Russia has a long history of lying and has yet to prove otherwise. As for Al Jazeera, like I said, I'd rather listen to Nancy Pelosi's Bull$hit!
