Anik F3 Launched

    This is the satellite which is scheduled to provide the continuing services at 118.7 for DiSH Network. Some may recall that AMC-16 has been there on a temporary basis to provide these services.

    The launch occurred at 6:54 PM EDT today The satellite is expected to be placed in service in May of this year.

    The camera was zoomed in a bit for the launch, so the classic launch pad shot was lost - but it was good to see it go to orbit and to see E*mentioned by the Telestar folks in their comments.

    So this is just to replace once already in use and won't enable room for adding more HD channels?

    It depends on how well it works. :)

    AMC-16 has two HDs per transponder. At 129° and 61.5° E* is doing four HDs per transponder. I'd like to see that on 118°.

    Up to 6 per transponder on both 129° and 61.5°.
