I know that the general answer is "whatever they have on hand" but I'm wondering if anyone has received a replacement DVR from DirecTV recently and if so, what did they send?

I have an old HR20 that has gotten too noisy for my bedroom and just called DTV to have it replaced. They are sending a new one out to me. So I'm just wondering what people have received recently.

As you quoted it is whatever they have on hand. There's no way to tell what you'll be getting until you get it.

Since you have an HR20, if you mentioned that you use OTA at all, you will most likely get a HR20 as the replacement. If nothing was mentioned about OTA, as long as the CSR didn't check the OTA flag, you will get whatever was next to be shipped.

...unlikely to be a new one :D

Last June I got a refurb HR21 as a second DVR. It was free, although I had to commit to another 24 months and the extra receiver monthly fee, and looks goods and works just fine.

I had an HR20 replaced the other day. I gambled for a newer unit and specifically told them no OTA and I got an HR21. :(

I got an HR20-700 refurb in November 2010 to replace an HR10-250.

I complained that the refurb HR20 ran EXTREMELY hot (135 degrees) and they replaced it with an HR24-100.
I think 127 is the max operating temp.
Through the protection plan I ended up getting 3 HR24's after weeks of reception issues (I have a total of three HD DVRs in the house).
At one point I did end up with a new 2 yr contract.

I recently got a HR24 swapped out for an old Tivo 10-250. They didn't even want the old Tivo which was working. It just didn't receive all the channels!
