Jus' a random troll. The PQ has looked great to me especially as someone that used to subscribe to fox.tv to watch league one games.. I thought that PQ was great(for a net stream) but to see them in HD has been incredible. I'm sure they are not all as good but I'm hardly expecting uniform greatness.

I think also that Ligue 1 PQ quality is pretty good. But I am disappointed by La Liga's PQ, but it was also bad when it was on on GolTV.

A good measurement would be the Serie A as PQ on FSC was excellent, we can verify BeIN's transmission quality at that time.

I'll try to make note of what is looking good and what is not. The Spanish match that I saw earlier that looks awful is on again now. It is Sevilla and Getafe. That's La Liga, right? It is bad. The close ups look great until people move. The long shots have a pronounced edge around the players like they are cut and paste on.

When is Serie A on? I'd like to take a look.

Yes, it is La Liga, and it was also very bad when shown on GolTV. Serie A should kick off next weekend.

Tonight I watched Lorient - Montpellier which is a French Ligue 1 match and was satisfied with the PQ. (But definelty inferior to EPL's transmission quality)

I watched a replay of Ligue 1 this morning. Acceptable but not what I would call great. Still some motion blur and some edging but not annoying. I could at least tell there were seats in the stands and tell which way the ball was spinning.

UEFA looks great today. A little motion blur but no edge issues. Why can't it all look like that..

Yeah picture quality varies.... it also really depends on what feeds they get. It isn't the distance, OBS has given us crisp, clear sports coverage during the Olympics, but it is dependent on what kind of feed the clubs in question provide and/or the company providing the feeds. If they already compress their feed beaming it up to a European satellite, and the receiver station that beams it on to a trans-Atlantic satellite receives a compressed signal, no amount of tinkering by beIN or DirecTV is going to make it look better.

Oh yes. I want to reiterate, my issue is not with beIN (at least I don't think it is). I am generally commenting in foreign soccer quality.

Since you lived over there, how much do you think is the trans Atlantic feed? I know systems used to be not so compatible but things are more standard now between here and there, yes?

I don't think compatibility is an issue any longer, no... HD standards are virtually identical, the difference between PAL and NTSC has more or less disappeared with digital MPEG4 compressed HD.

How much the trans-Atlantic feed is? No idea.... I know there are satellites over the Atlantic that can receive/send to either end of the ocean, and they have all sorts of stuff on there.... hundreds of news feeds, hundreds of sports feeds going both ways, loads and loads of channel feeds (CNN International, BBC World, but also international channels such as TV5 (French), Deutsche Welle (German), BVN (Dutch), RAI (Italian), etc, etc.... many countries have "international" channels for speakers of their language abroad, and many many channels are on those satellites.

    Lyngsat has a list:

'Tis fact now. The only away match that beIn Sport will not carry, should they advance to the Hex, is the qualifier played in Mexico. Univision currently has those rights.

Can anyone say whether English Championship matches are aired in HD on BeIn? I know this channel airs Championship matches and it would be nice to see Nottingham Forest in HD, the only Forest games I have seen were in horrible SD via Fox Soccer Plus or Setanta before that.

It depends on whether English Championship matches are DELIVERED to beIN in HD. If they only receive a SD feed, only Harry Potter's magic wand may be able to turn it in HD. :D

    Somewhere...
HD. Directv chose not to pick up the HD feed of those games through fox soccer plus before.

Don't think so. IIRC, those games were not produced in HD. Therefore, no HD feed on DirecTV.

I really hope that when they do air npower Championship matches, beIN uses the English commentators feeds like FS uses for EPL..
Also looks like GOLTV is going all in with Bundlesliga, at least for this week, as they have 5 LIVE matches scheduled for this opening weekend.

Agreed. Aside from the start-up foibles, the presentation is top-notch. (I LIKE Ray and Phil)

Plus, it's getting me more live Bundesliga, so that's a win-win.
