Only reference to DirecTV I see there is when Maarten asked them a question.
Yep, and I got a relatively obscure answer too, but one that does give me hope.
I think we might see these channels at some point.
I take it you have never watched an EPL match on ESPN. When you do, get back to me. You might notice a distinct lack of commercials during actual match play. Hell, ESPN even shows MLS the right way.
As for La Liga, ESPN has attempted to show el classico, etc., in the past, and gotten horrible ratings. Why do you think La Liga was exiled to ESPN Deportes?
ESPN will broadcast whatever will make them money. So far, La Liga has not.
I appreciate you reiterating my point. Thanks.
And this isn't really about ESPN anyway. It's about a provider who has invested a lot of money to bring a product to air. GolTV's flagship product has been La Liga, with Bundesliga a close 2nd. That's now gone. beIn has that product, plus Serie A and Ligue 1 rights.
And I know full well that ESPN's EPL coverage is without commercial breaks. That doesn't mean that they have gone out bidding to get more matches in better time slots. Part of the problem is that the EPL tends to save night matches for weeknights in order to curb bad behavior. Not to mention that would cut into ESPN's showing things like NCAA Football and Basketball - again, products which earn them major dollars when it comes to commercial breaks.
Weeknight EPL matches still means a 3:00pm EDT kickoff. Nobody in the US can show these matches LIVE in prime time, because it is impossible to do so. There is no conspiracy among networks and sponsors to bury soccer. Quite the contrary, if you have been paying any attention.
Better time slots? Sports should be shown LIVE and they show the EPL matches they do have LIVE. If you can't watch them at that time slot because of work, etc.... just DVR them and watch them later.
Besides, there is just too much sport to bid on for ESPN. Besides the obvious in making money in prime time with sports more Americans would care about, the EPL's schedule also gets in the way.
On Saturday the 18th, there are 6 games starting at the exact same time. Well.... they don't have 6 channels, AND they have other sports commitments.
As far as broadcasting soccer, they do it the right way. I watch MLS games, and there are no commercials during the game itself.
I hate ESPN in general but have no issues with how they broadcast soccer. It could be worse, I remember 6-7 years ago watching an EPL game on Rogers Sportsnet in Canada and they would delay the game every now and then to show commercials.
I'm not saying that ESPN should cover every game. Their marketing of what they show, from promos to coverage on SportsCenter, isn't good enough.
My point is that a game at 2:30 PM EST on Saturday is as close to primetime as you could get for EPL. They don't show games then because the EPL won't start a game at 8:30 PM British time (unlike La Liga, which has gone late for Clasicos in particular).
Anyway, still hoping that beIn is getting worked out as we argue.
I been watching the free streaming on the computer. It looks like a really good channel we'll see.
hmm, BEIN is in test this morning. hope you folks really apologize to xav16!
beIN SPORTS is ON!!!
Apologize? I'm not going to. Because we doubted someone we didnt know on an anonymous board? Nope.
Thank him. Yes.
looks to be part time HD ala Fox Soccer Plus and there's some confusion as to whether or not this is replacing GolTV.
Where are you seeing that? Did I miss something?

3rd column is FT for Full-Time, PT for Part-time,
Ah. I need coffee.
NM, looks like Sixto updated his post. Full time it is
Oh. Maybe that's why I am confused. I really need coffee now!
Correct. That FT and PT designation is purely based on experience, and any new channel number automatically defaults to PT until I change it.
I'm now assuming it's full-time, so changed it, but we'll see how it rolls out, but I'd expect it's full-time since it seems to be replacing a full-time with the same channel number.
