i have to respond to this. I can’t accept this. I have been with DirecTv since 1997. I’ve been a Customer of MLB Extra Innings on DirecTv Since then and Never has the Cardinals or The Cubs games been blacked out for me unless they were playing Atlanta or Cincinnati. You are very correct about me being very close to the Cardinals Broadcast Territory Boarder. The County Just To the West of me Is in that Cardinals Sportsouth broadcast territory but my Zip Code 38834 which is Corinth, Ms ( the town) is not in Cardinal broadcast territory and NEVER has there games been blacked out EVER until 2 nights ago. Then on top of that the Cubs Feed was not available either. How much clearer can i type this? I was not supposed to be blacked out from this game. At the DirecTv Website I typed in my Zip Code once again (38834) under the mlb extra innings schedule and the channel numbers were shaded black meaning i should get the games. They were not shaded in grey. Grey means you can't get the game. I should never be blacked out from the Cardinals unless they play Atlanta or Cincinnati.
Wait, you are supposed to be blacked out for one of the teams right? I don't have much experience with all this, but if your supposed to be blacked out for one of them I'd think you'd be blocked from all the feeds otherwise what would be the point of the blackout he just one channel in the first place?
Can anyone explain that to me?
I am not supposed to be blacked out from a Cardinals or Cubs game.
I am no longer getting Cardinals Games via MLB Extra Innings & Cannot get their opponents feed either. What is going on. I Can’t get No Feed of the game whatsoever on MLB Extra Innings. There is Something Wrong.
You need to give us more information. What is your zip code?
As I explained last night, you're probably out of luck. Creating a new topic here for every blackout won't help you any.
You are in a black hole, where you cannot get in-market coverage because you're too far away and cannot get out-of-market coverage (at least through DirecTV) because you're too close. Your zip code is technically outside Cardinals territory, but it's close enough to be a problem. DirecTV has to err on the side of blacking out too much because it protects them legally. It is extremely difficult to get DirecTV to change their blackout zones, even if there is a mistake (and I suspect there is in your case).
As I said last night, MLB.TV is an alternative that should give you the Cardinals games where you live, provided you have broadband internet access. That's the best advice I can give you. I know it sucks, but you're not alone - there are plenty of people in the country who have to deal with issues like yours. It is always those who are near the edge of a team's coverage area that get screwed.
you aren't getting the game on WGN?
The MLB website seems pretty committed to the idea that the TS' ZIP code is good to go for the Cubs and Cards. Whether the ZIP is physically located near the border shouldn't make any difference as DIRECTV has per-account control (by zip or county) of who sees what.
In any event, addressing anyone other than DIRECTV about their problem probably isn't going to swiftly change what DIRECTV is doing.
Repeatedly posting here won't fix it.
I'd send an email to Ellen Filipiak's office (firstname.lastname@example.org) explaining your situation and how when you enter your zip code at Directv.com and MLB.com they both say you should be getting these games. Her office should be able to track down the problem and get it fixed.
(there have been reports here of users getting answers on the weekend, so I'd send them an email this weekend).
Well, a receiver reset sometimes does a lot of good!
BTW, you can edit your own posts for some time, which puts the info in the second post a lot closer to first post.
E-Mail has been sent. When you are blacked out from BOTH feeds there is a mistake. I am not suppose to be getting blacked out from St. Louis OR Chicago Feeds in Zip Code 38834
I want to thank everyone here for their input and to TRH thank you for posting that e-mail address for me to try. I know baseball blackouts are almost impossibe to get remedied but this just started 3 nights ago. I sent an e-mail and someone else in my area sent me a private message who read here that is also getting these blackouts and YES it's a mistake what DirecTv or MLB is doing. We are NOT suppose to be blacked out from St. Louis in Zip Code 38834. Thank you all once again and i won’t hound you guys anymore.
Please let us know how it turns out, and Good Luck!
I wanted to add a reply that won't really help you much, only DTV or MLB can do that BUT, even if you are in the Cardinals home area you would still get all their games on 671. I am in Memphis not to far from you and I am in the Cardinals, Reds and Braves home area. I cannot get any of their games on the opposing teams feeds however I get all their games on their feeds. I am a Reds fan and I am watching the Reds and Braves play right now on 661-1. I could also watch this game on the Braves network since they are also my home team. I don't sub to MLB extra innings because I get all the Reds games on 661 just by subscribing to the sports tier. I also sub to MLB TV so I can watch the archived games when the Reds don't play on their feed (661).
Its amazing that MLB doesn't just say make all feeds open to everyone in every market for ei. I cant believe it would do anything but increase ratings for all stations overall.
This post is absolutely correct. Even if I was in Cardinals Broadcast Territory I should Still Get The FOX Sports Midwest Feed on Channel 671. As I Stated in a previous post, I’ve been Blacked Out From BOTH teams feeds that the Cardinals have been playing. And As I have said in earlier posts The Issue here isn’t about be being in the Cardinals Territory, it’s been determined that I am NOT in Cardinals home Broadcast Territory. The County Just to the West of me Is in Cardinals Territory, But I am not. I am considered “Out Of Market” I’m in Cincinnati Reds, & Atlanta Braves Territory being in Zip Code 38834...Not St. Louis’s .
Because of the escalating cost of RSN's, DirecTV (and other providers) have made a business decision to cut back on how much of a team's territory they cover. The cost to them is much higher for each subscriber that gets a certain team, so in areas where interest in the team is lower, it makes more economical sense for DirecTV to pull the plug on local team carriage. This has happened in several areas of the country. If you do a search, you should find a thread from earlier this year about a portion of Pittsburgh Pirates territory that can no longer receive Pirates games through DirecTV, even if they goot ROOT Sports in their package and even if they subscribe to EI. (Ironically, DirecTV owns ROOT Sports.) People in those areas are being blacked out no matter what, and there is nothing they can do about it.
I should emphasize that this is NOT your issue. Indeed, this is why I wanted to know where you live so that I could see if this might be what's going on for you. Since you're outside Cardinals territory, however, this does not explain your situation.
Your RSN pays a ton of money to carry your local team's games. Their investment needs to be protected, that's why you can't watch the opponent's feed. Or ESPN/TBS, though allegedly national broadcasts will be opened up next contract.
