All internationals (6100s), public interests (9000s) and Western locals (00s/8000s) will be removed on June 17. Act Now! get a free upgrade of your satellite, if recommended. :nono2: Joining Satellite 148° in the defunct list are Satellites 105° and 121°. :hurah:.

EchoStar 5 will be there on or about Monday May 25, 2009. After that we shall see what happens with 148. :)

It didn't go anywhere. It is planned to go to 77w after EchoStar 5 replaces it.

HUH? I thought that all the internationals were being moved off 61.5/148 and onto the FSS locations.

Both the sats are alive and doing well (with other tasks).

I called Technical Support today for the migration of 61.5 to 118.7 and the supervisor said that international will stay at 61.5 (Hindi Package) and at 118.7, so the transition is not necessary.????????? I am confused.

I must have missed something here. I thought the FSS locations were 105 & 121, I forgot about 118.7. I need a remedial history lesson. Did 118.7 take the place of 105 & 121?

I'm also confused. the takedowns haven't been scheduled yet, but they are indeed coming. 61.5 to 118.7 for all of the Hindi stations if I'm not mistaken..

At the moment, not all international channels are immediately migrating to 118. It's being done slowly to space out the 500+/1000+ installs.

Hello. I used to subscribe to 'TV Japan' on channel 640. I still currently have my second dish pointed at the 148 Sat. I no longer subscribe but occasionally tune into their free programming that is broadcast at various times of the day.

My second dish is a 'Dish 500', and as I understand it, its required to have the '500+' in order to reach the 118 Sat and receive TV Japan once again?

Anyway I called Dish to check on the "Free Upgrade" and they told me that either I have to agree to a 24 month agreement or pay $199 bucks in order to receive the upgrade. I'm not subscribed to TV Japan at the moment as I mentioned, but I explained to them that I wish to subscribe once again and that to deny me the hardware I need in order to receive their programming is bs. I used to have it, and was not charged for my second dish in the first place. Now they make a change and what to charge me for it. What should I do? Thanks so much.

peace, do that way: 1st - subscribe to intl channel(s), 2nd - wait when Dish will send a postcard to you or will call for mandatory upgrade your exsting dish(s) to D500+ or D1000+.
First step I would do - subscribe for a channel what still reside on 148W.

Here's another way to get the free TV Japan programs, reaim your 148 dish to 61.5! It's a long shot, however it may be possible to see that satellite from your location in CA. It's probably at a 9 degree angle which looks like the dish is pointed at the ground, however the signal actually reflects off the dish into the LNB, so 9 degrees down is actually 9 degrees above the horizion. All you need the the compass heading from your zipcode to 61.5.

    Good luck!

61.5 in California? No way. 118.7 (a Plus dish) would be the better choice in California.

There are no issues - if you have LOS, the sat is going strong in CA.

When Sky Angel was on 61.5 they had subs on the west coast. The signal reaches that far, however it's more susceptible to rain fade. In fact the "rain fade" could happen when there is not a drop of rain in the sky locally. Rain up to 300 miles away could affect the signal. With a 9 degree look angle, the signal goes through a lot more of Earth's atmosphere than the other satelites that are higher up from your POV.
