I know this is a satellite site but i just read over at fierce cable website where cablevisions dvr can record 10 shows at a time with their 10 tuner dvr! wow! and i thought directv was doing good, actually i do think directvs genie probably better than cablevisions dvr from what i read about the genie so far. hopefully directv can equal or top that 10 tuner count someday!!

Judging by the remote , Scientific Atlanta

Same as my local cable company uses. Should be interesting to see. I have 10 tuners right now too with directv.

Amazing if true on one hand, but kind of ridiculous overkill on the other without an RVU type system to share those many tuners with other viewing locations around the house on thin clients.

Since what viewer would ever need to view and/or record up to 10 programs at once at a single location?

IMO, 6 tuners would be more appealing to the masses. Record the 4 major networks and 2 cable networks.

Obviously it has RVU type capability, they renamed it the "Multi room DVR".

I think that's nuts, but I have a feeling that if there was a new Genie that had 10 tuners, you'd still see people here wanting to know if they could have two on their account :)

Depends on how much sports you record. I'd love ten tuners, would be very easy to catch all sports and shows that way. 8 would be close but six would not be enough for me in la.

The only thing I am surprised is that it took them all this long to come out with such product. It easier and cheaper to include more tuners in cable box that it is for DirecTV due to the technology being used.

Their newest boxes are from Samsung, but they also use Scientific Atlanta and have some of their original Sony boxes still out there.

Also, this is their remote DVR service, it's not stored on your hard drive so technically it isn't using any of your tuners:

From what I've heard the content is recorded onto the cloud.

No. Not really. For ten tuners to be useful in one DVR, the DVR must have a storage complicity to match it. Say 5TB. Not a weak 75 HRS of HD.

To a cloud? Then why such a low storage complicity?
