I have a HR20. When a call comes in, the caller ID displays the number, etc. The only way to get the number off theh screen is to hit the OK button. Is there a setting to have the ID display the number for a set amount of time (say 10 seconds) then go away automatically?

I think it does go off by itself, but it takes a while, like a minute or something like that.

Yes, it eventually goes away by itself. Or you can press "Exit" to make it go away right away.

Interesting. I haven't changed my caller ID settings yet it only stays up 10-15 seconds each time....rarely any longer

Is your receiver plugged directly to a phoneline? Or do you use one of those modules that send the phone signal through the power wall sockets, RCA makes them. Some of those will block caller ID.

If you have DSL for internet service, you will need a DSL telephone filter for the telephone jack and line connection. That solved my caller ID problems with my HR-20. When the internet is active, it blocks the caller ID data.

Also, If you have DSL, make sure your DSL filter is in the right direction, everything will work ( like the phone test and calling out for PPVs) But no CID

Another cause of Caller ID not working on the HR20 is due to the coax cables from the 5LNB not being connected to a ground block and the building ground.

This happened to me. After I connected the ground block and the ground wire, Caller ID statrted working perfectly.

This should be in the HR20 forum.

The solution applies to any STB with a Caller ID feature. The grounding is needed to provide a reference point to the circuitry in the phone line port of the STB for the Caller ID signals to be processed.

I wonder if anyone is going to answer the original question. Can the time that the ID is displayed be changed? If yes, how.

No. The duration that the CID is on screen is not a user configurable option.

IMHO, though, it should be tied to the banner display time that is a user configurable option.
