    So could I connect a Genie and an HR21-700 to the swm side of the swim8 and another HR21-700 and a HR10-250 to the legacy side of the swim8. I would only use one connection for the HR21 and two for the HR10. I only want to leave the other HR21 connected until we watch all the recorded shows. In the end, I would have a Genie, a HR21-700 and a HR10-250.

    umm, HR21 would req two coax and HR10 - one; is your SWM-8 has three legacy ports ?

    Not sure;

    Even if you run a single coax to the HR21 and set it for one tuner operation, for some strange reason the SWiM-8 will not pass the Ka-lo band (250-750MHz) through its legacy ports. It will pass Ka-hi (1650-2150 MHz), but not the lo.

    Therefore, I don't know if you can complete the satellite setup like that with the Ka-lo band blocked.
    You certainly won't be able to view many HD channels this way even if you could, but since you say you just want to temporarily watch only prior recordings on it you might get away with it.

    You are right, I forgot that the HR10 has an internal splitter. My question is would that configuration work. I don't intend to record anything on the HR21, it's just connected to the satellite so I can watch the recorded shows.

    if all your trying to do is keep it active and not record anything then yes you can do that. Of course you could also hook it in with the swim side if you are turning one tuner off.
