I've been with D* since the 90's, and I sent them an e-mail about swapping out my trusty HR20-700 with a HR24. They replied with the following: Thanks for writing. Please note that the purchase price will not be offset. As technology becomes more advanced, leasing allows us to provide the latest equipment with minimal upfront cost to the customer. The upgrade fees allow us to keep our monthly lease fees low. Many leased items require an upfront payment as well as monthly fees. After reading your email and reviewing your account I see that you are eligible for a discounted equipment upgrade. Since you have been a valuable DIRECTV customer we can give you an HR24 receiver at $99. --------------------- Can D* really guarantee me a HR24? I've seen folks here saying "no", but this e-mail would seem to indicate that the HR24 was a sure thing. (I'm OK with the $99) What do you think? Thanks!
