Sorry if this is common knowledge but, if I connect two HR-20's to my home network, is there any way to view recorded programs between DVR's? Or is this only possible with DirecTV's whole home service?

Your HR20 model DVRs can work fine on a home LAN but you will need to activate the Whole Home Service which will be a three dollar monthly charge for that service. This is cost is per account and not DVR so its just three bucks.

Trying to get them to enable this on your home network may or may not be problematic however as they really want you with a configuration they can understand and manage (DECA). Still you should be able to make it happen on your home network BUT you will not get customer support for issues.

If you have been with Direct several years and kept payments current it may be best to just call and order whole home and negotiate a loyal customer discount which may include replacements to your nearly antique HR20s;)

There is a thread under Connected Home that starts with a how to use email to get Whole Home activated on your home network.

The service is not active unless you have the whole home authorized. There is no way to avoid paying the $3 per month fee if you want to use MRV.
