all of a sudden I can't change the resolution. I press format on remote but all it does is cycle through 480p screen formats, same when I press RES botton on reciever.

Have you tried restarting the unit?

Was that the problem? If so I have had a problem before after a update a setting was changed for whatever reason.

You want it on if you want the resolution to change when changing channel using different resolutions.

to change it manually using format button, as your original post states you were trying to do, native would need to be off.
with native on the system automatically changes it as Mike said above.
my experience with native on is that I have no ability to manually change format.

Makes sense...i am an extreme novice when it comes to home theater set up...the last DirecTV tech to visit my home seemed less knowledgable than me...any suggests where I can look for optimim settings?

    so am I :)
I press buttons until it looks good and then try to remember what I pushed. my opinion is everybody likes things differently, experiment and watch it the way you like it.

I have the same problem. Whether I have native on or off, my HR20-100 behaves as if it is on. Flips itself to 480P on Non HD channels. I've tried restarting twice, but no change. I have 3 HR20-100 and one HR20-700 but this is the only one doing it.
