    CBS is making shows that you won't see on conventional TV

    (Engadget.com) - The company is creating shows that most likely won't air on its own TV channels -- a big step when many rivals are still reluctant to give online services their latest conventional programming, let alone an incentive for people to drop their cable subscriptions. Mind you, it's not hard to see the financial motivations involved. Netflix just recently overtook HBO in revenue, based in part on exclusive shows like House of Cards; while it still has a long way to go on profit, there's now a lot of money on the table for studios that make internet-only hits....

    Doesn't matter if you can't get to them without having a more traditional pay TV account somewhere.

    This seems like a non-story. It is hardly unusual for a highly-diversified media company to produce something you will not see on its air. FOX has been making movies for nearly a century, which means before 1987, NONE of them were on their air.

    Here's a few other things you won't see on CBS's air: Fender guitars, intercontinental ballistic missiles, Columbia records CDs, Field & Stream magazine, Steinway pianos, and the Atari 2600, just to name a few. There are lots of things the CBS parent company has its fingers in, and all of those are or were holdings of Westinghouse or whoever the parent company was at the time. It's a conglomerate.

    And a conglomerate just like everbody else. Nearly every media company is highly vertically and horizontally integrated. They kind of have to be to compete. Nearly every network has a production arm that makes programs that air on all of the other big competing networks.

    This is "Dog bites Man". That this trend would not extend to the non-traditional newer outlets, now that is what would be surprising and so actually would be a story; more like "Man bites Dog".

    CBS hasn't owned Fender since the mid 80's. 1985 to be exact.
