Based on the poll results over in the other thread roughly 65% of the folks who have enabled DOD are currently not getting the DOD channels. Seems to me the whole purpose of being a CE'er is to get access to early code to help test for problems....looks like it is working as designed to me...:)

Now as soon as the D* technical folks get to work (remember they are on the west coast) we can start to help them find and fix the problems. Remember folks, that's what participating in the CE releases is all about.

Now this is going to be a bit of an off-the-wall question.

If you were to set this up through a firewall, what ports would you need to leave open?

I'll have to check to see if I have channel 1000 or not. I don't have the latest CE yet so should I see 1000 without the latest CE?

0x190 and believe someone said 0x186 has the VOD software in it.

With either software you need to press menu-->search-->keyword-->type "IWANTMYVOD"-->continue-->all-->when in finds nothing press and hold menu and info on the front of the HR20 together for 2 seconds and let go. The new hidden menu will pop up and you have to turn on VOD. Until you turn that on you have no chance of seeing channel 1000.

In order to have access to the DOD channels you need to have dl'd the latest CE (this past Friday or Saturday during the windows), and have enabled DOD thru the "IWANTMYVOD" hidden menu. Even then, 65% of the folks are not getting access to the DOD channels due to an issue that is still not resolved.

That's not off the wall, that's an excellent question. They could conceivably be pushing the data over port 80 but I'd bet they are using a high (> 1000 ) port number. Anyone with DOD have the ability to monitor what ports it is using?

I should have an answer to this tonight. Somehow I got the download, then fell of the edge of the planet until this morning, missing the DOD activation. I saw the post on Engadget this morning and iwll turn it on tonight. MY firewalls track all port activity (good for spying on my son!).

    I'll let you know.

That is where I made a mistake yesterday. I did not wait until the search returns an empty result. At the "all category" step you can have access to the secret menu as well. I am right now at work, but I will try letting the search go through and then activate VOD to see if it changes anything.

You do not need to leave any inbound ports open or redirected. I'm not sure what the specific outbound port requirements are. In my case, I have all outbound ports open. This will be true for most other folks as well.

I loaded the latest CE but took it off, The release notes said that VOD WOULD NOT BE ENABLED with this CE. Im so mad that I the one CE I take off has VOD.

Why would this have anything to do with firewalls? Guide Data comes from the sats not from the network. There are people that have enabled VOD and see channel 1000 without having a network connection at all.

I am not currently networked, but I went and enabled VOD anyway this morning. I saw channel 1000 and a bunch of other ones right away! I am able to list and get info on a few hundred programs, so far. Everything looks good, so I guess I will run a cable from my 8 way switch to my HR20 a couple rooms away.

BTW, I do not have Cable or DSL available up here in my little mountain abode - I am stuck with either DirecWay (Hughes Net) or WildBlue (current satellite ISP) and with no more than about 200 Kbs downloads, I suppose feature length movies will take over night to grab. I should be able to report back by this weekend.

I just did a hard reboot. *duck* (stop throwing bottles!)

On reboot - my guide is gone. I had to re-enter the Search code. And now I cannot even navigate to 1000.

    A couple interesting notes:
    1. The first time I pressed guide I got the Spring Update 2007 message.
    2. Then I got a message about aquiring guide data.

The second time I ran "IWANTMYVOD" I only had one menu item as oppossed to two. The first time I had a status option, and a VOD menu. The second time, just a VOD menu.

I have two VOD channels in my guide: 1276 and 1354. Neither work.

well I did both of my HR20 this morning before work.. entered the search string and enabled VOD on each receiver, though one is only networked right now. I received "updating guide" messages on both units, and had 5-6 channels in the 1000 block but none of them would work when I went to them, giving a black screen with "Channel not available" message. I left and went to work, came home 7 hours later.. and EVERYTHING WORKS NOW! even on the receiver I dont have networked, I can properly viiew channel 1000, and the other 4-5 channels. And I am downloading a movie now for $0.01... so far so good, I WANT HOWARDTV NOW!

For all of you that keep asking for HOWARDTV....
Have you sent HOWARD an email, to let them know you would like to see them get on board with DirecTV On Demand?
