So long as they give you a reasonable amount of time to watch the show.... at least a week or two would be nice. Half the reason I got a DVR is because I rarely have time to watch TV anymore. Between working and having a 3 year old, it's hard to find the time. :D

Most of what I've seen has been a week or more. Just keep in mind that the amount of time you will have to watch the movie/show is 100% dependent on the network itself just as with cable On Demand services. So say you just get activated for DoD and you select a movie from Starz On Demand. Well if Starz shows that On Demand title as being on a last chance until say this Thursday the DoD service will show the movie as expired on Thursday and nothing we can do today can prevent this. Remember DirecTV would be at a breach of contract if they offered any Starz On Demand title beyond the time Starz has set forth in their On Demand programming lineup. Recording a show aired live is very different than DirecTVs On Demand service which must follow the On Demand contract that all other cable companies have today. Now that isn't to say that some content companies won't allow DirecTv to offer DVR stored content until the customer deletes it (ie you can only download the movie before the expired date) but nobody can promise this right now ya know.

Only time will tell in how much or little freedom we will all have with DirecTV On Demand programming.

Yeah, I understand that D* has to obey any expiration dates set by the content provider, and after getting home and playing with DOD for a while, it seems to be pretty generous. I was just afraid that they expect you to watch within 24 hours of downloading (kind of like a PPV).... that would stink!

I know this has been starting to get off-topic, and I apologize. I initially just wanted to share the "chain of events" that lead to me getting DOD activated.... whether it will help anyone or not, or whether it means anything or not, who knows. But as others have said, if you are still waiting, be patient. It'll happen eventually. I was pretty patient, but definitely a little like a kid on the night before Christmas. :D

Also, I agree... the whole thing seems nicely done and with the very little testing I've gone through so far, it also seems to work great. No major issues encountered yet... worked exactly how I expected.

Upgraded from H20 to HR20 on 10/03 and networked that night. Downloaded 0X1A6 on 10/04 and enabled VOD, Downloaded 0X1AF on 10/11. VOD activated by D* sometime today. For refrence to those posting that it was enabled on their account closing date or due date, My Service Period runs from 09/28 - 10/27 and the due date for this period is 10/18. Payment for that period was made last week.

Those of you who had VOD enabled today, is remote booking working yet? I was under the impression that they would both start at the same time, but I'm still getting the message about "Closed Beta" on the website.

Just got it -- had to add the channels to my Custom1 before listings appeared.

    About a two week wait.

DoD activated Yesterday at some point after a 4+ week wait. On the D* website my recent activity shows:

    10/16/2007 HR20 New Service - Charge $0.00 $0.00

Everything works well, way better than my Comcast cable On Demand. I did notice that there are two DoD entries under High Def, but neither will download. When I select either one, I can see the queue number advance by one, just for a few seconds, then go back to it's original number. Nothing in the queue or playlist.

Is the VOD code still out in the data stream? I forced a download yesterday, and it gave me 0x18A. Is it only available during a certain window? If so when is the window.

CE's need to be downloaded during the CE window and that window needs to have the software for your model receiver or it will download the national release software again.

CE windows are normally Friday and Saturday nights between 11:00 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. ET.

But you need to visit the CE forum to watch out to see when they are happening. You can also get an email notification by signing up for it.

DirecTV on Demand is coming to the HR20-100s with this weekend's CE release. Be sure to download it then.

I just downloaded the DOD code for the first time. This note confused me about activating DOD since it is now done automatically by DirecTV over the Internet (and took hours). Maybe this should be updated for future newbies like me.

I think the 16th was activation day for most of us that were later to the process. My billing cycle is the first of the month and I'm not networked, so I know neither of these affected the process. Maybe, before the end of the year, an affordable DSL service will be available to me and I can really watch the content, instead of just window shop. Window shopping really sucks, sometimes.
