    Can anyone explaine to me why Direct wants $99 for the connection kit? Even $60 from Solid Signal seems to be way over priced.. I know I am being a cheapskate, but I can't afford or explain away some of these purchases.

    The $25 with $6.99 shipping is based on the account already having a SWM installed and MRV active on the account. Otherwise, it's $79.99 with free shipping. This is the wireless connection kit.

    I got my MIL's account upgraded to HD 2 weeks ago. The CSR gave her a genie and a genie client, but insisted on charging 19.95 for a CCK plus tax.

    Installer showed up with a 44 and client. He insisted he had to use wifi on the 44 as bridge and had no CCK per the order.

    I let it slide.

    The $19.95 was for delivery and handling. Some times CSR present this wrong on the phone because the genie says it's free and the system adds a CCK line item on the account to let the tech know he needs to bring out SWIM equipment. However even though the Genie is free some times there is a 19.95 charge for delivery and handling and a $49.95 charge for installation.

    I never fully understood why the delivery and handling is charged in addition to the installation charge.

    That wired one is actually obsolete now, though still available from various third party sources. DIRECTV installers have reverted now back to the "BB DECA" approach using a receiver DECA improvisation kit. This time using the DECA II module such as here in this photo from e-bay;

    Delivery and handling may still apply even if installation is free.

    I did go back and check on self install, you are correct it is $25.. I just saw where they added the $99 when I ordered a new DVR last week and Direct added it to the cart.

    Thanks for your input.

    What, That's Deca II picture you posted is for your MRV setup to work with Receiver that don't have Deca Built in . Like HR22 and HR23s. Got really nothing to do with CCK.

    No, I meant the present BB DECA kit installers are using now which replaced the wired CCK posted earlier is "centered" around use of the DECA II module as was its predecessor the original BB DECA kit before the intervening wired CCK was based around the DECA I module (the "white brick").

    See the Tech Tip bulletin on this change from last year which I uploaded then.

    I've had more issues with wired routers than wireless.
