In ways, yes it is. But nowadays due to changes in technology, you may sometimes hear people state that a wireless connection is just as good as a wired connection. But I tend to disagree with that. A wired connection is more cost effective and secure than a wireless connection. Even using WPA2 encryption standards, someone can get into your network if they are determined enough (more easily so with weak PSK or wireless network passwords and using defualt SSIDS).

I made a list of pros and cons of wired vs wireless :D:

    Wired:
+ Can not be intercepted down the wire, thus high security
+ Immensely high speeds depending on cable and hardware
+ Plug and play meaning no having to configure settings
+ Easy setup, plugging in at both ends just works without having to configure stuff
+ Cost effective as cables are relatively cheap
    - Cables can be damaged

    Wireless:
+ Convenient allows allows freedom of using network anywhere signal
    can be reached
+ Less cables and more people can connect to one access point
    - Not cost effective as wireless routers can be pricy
    - Signals can be intercepted from low security like from dumpster diving
    - Limited signal range and speeds decreases further away you are
    - Signals can be affected by other signals and radio waves
    - Speeds sometimes not as fast as wired
    - Initial setup can be difficult for some

Probably more info than you wanted lol

Last cat5 cable I bought was around 50' and cost roughly $75 IIRC. Mayb be cheaper now but still kinda pricey.

Never! This was probably 5 years ago. Looking at current prices, it was a rip. But comparatively, if you made 4 runs in the house, with average length of 30', it could be costly.

You can not make a broad statement like that about somebody off of one thing. :)

They probably have not purchased ethernet cable in a while. No big deal

Well, that statement is anything but "borad" If refers to the topic at hand, but if the shoe fits, wear it....
