Comcast suing DirecTV over Sunday Ticket advertising.

    You have like an 8-month span to call back and cancel. If you can't manage to leave yourself some sort of reminder to make a phone call sometime within an 8-month window, you are at a level of disorganization that I didn't realize was possible.

    Personally, as soon as I sign up for any sort of deal like this, I add a calendar event at some point in the future to remind me to cancel. That way I get alerts on my phone and computer when the time comes.

    How are they getting more customers by telling a lie? :confused:

    New (more) customers are getting Sunday Ticket for free, just like the ads say. How is that a lie?

    Honestly, the "free Sunday Ticket" deal doesn't sound much different than getting a "free" or reduced price mobile phone deals from any of the wireless providers in the country.

    There is a very big difference: you're not going to get automatically charged $350 for that free phone next year.

    Well... when you put it that way... Aside from the auto-recurring charge, it's similar to most all of the "we give you something for nothing and you agree to a long-term commitment" so-called-deals that exist.

    In that case it's not much different that Comcast's "3-way bundle" for a mere $99 deal they used to run here, then in 6 months the intro pricing disappears and you get hit with the full-price subscription amount.

    You are only auto charged for 2012 NFL ST if you don't do anything prior to the 2012 season, right?

    If that's right, that's a big difference that what you are accusing. You make it seem like these new customers can't cancel the auto renew for 2012 and are somehow forced to have it at full price for 2012.

    I'm not accusing anyone of anything, just stating the fact that if the customer does nothing, they will be charged. Of course they are free to cancel it before they get charged next season, and I've already said in this thread that I don't think any of this is shady. It seems like DirecTV is making it clear that it will auto-renew.

    NFL Sunday ticket is MONEY for DirecTV. Their exclusivity will never end, DirecTV will pay big bucks to the NFL no matter what the cost is.

    Its a great thing.
    DirecTV customer now 10+ years.

    Dude. If you use a public library, you have to be organized enough to return the books. That seems about the same level as calling DirecTV once in an eight month period to cancel something. Do you consider the library a scam, too?

    And even if they get charged next season and don't want it, they can just call DirecTV and they'll remove the charge.

    I think if you get free Sunday Ticket from DirecTV, they should also sign you up for the Columbia Record Club, where CDs are automatically sent to each customer. You'd have to go to the post office to send back the CD if you didn't want to keep it. Otherwise you would be billed for the disc.

    Or maybe it would be the Columbia Movie Club, with a new DVD that's automatically shipped to you every three weeks.

    Back in the old days, it was 8-track tapes. I even got 8 free initially! I remember destroying at least one Carpenters tape because of this scam.

    I hardly feel sorry for a customer who has to call DirecTV sometime over the course of a year to cancel next year's Sunday Ticket.

    Watching the Browns vs Packers game now, and 1/2 the seats are empty. I know its only the preseason, but that seems to be a rather bad sign. Maybe DirecTv will be able to get a better deal next time.
