In the Directv documentation they list 3 brands of usb to serial adapters that are supported. Belkin isnt one of them, but does anyone know if the Belkin adapters will work?

Tom Robertson may be able to answer this. I think he has messed with this a little!

Perhaps the bump to first page will get some attention.

The first one I tried was the Belkin and it worked great.

Thanks Spanky for the PM about this thread. Glad I could help.

    Cheers,
    Tom

The next question would be, is it possible to use RS232 or USB to control a receiver via Slingbox instead of the IR blaster?

That might be a nice option, but I've had excellent success with my SlingBox IR Blaster.

Agreed, but it might look a little cleaner to have the wire in back instead of straddling the receiver. And, it would allow you to use an RF remote with the Slingbox.
