I'm adding the new HR21-100 to my family room where I already have a HR20-700 which I control with my Harmony remote.

I looked in Milo's "Tips and Tricks" document on how to control two HR2xs with one remote and it indicates that the second HR2x is controlled by the remote when set to AV1. If I'm using a Harmony Remote, does this mean that I have to set up the second HR2x on it's remote on AV1 and then learn all of the commands on AV1 to the Harmony remote?

I was reading on that yesterday too. There was someone who was reportedly trying to work with Logitech to get the AV1 set of codes setup as a pre-defined model #, though I didn't see that had actually been done yet.

    Apparently, this procedure works.

Also, I think you can search the Harmony database for the device "HR20-700S3" and it will have the settings for code set 0003.

    (Thanks RunnerFL)

On this subject, kinda, and this may have been covered elsewhere, but, what model number is recommended that I enter to set up my Harmony for the HR21-100 once it comes in?

You have many options here, if it still doen't work I'd be happy to work with ya, I have a somewhat unique setup, but none the less it works with many DVRs.

Well, this is the one that worked, in combination with digitalfreaks instructions for the Harmony remote! Thanks, RunnerFL and digitalfreak!

I'll have to let Milo know that the procedure that he lists is much less simple than it is and doesn't work. The directions that DirecTV has on the DVR screens don't work at all. The directions that digitalfreak has for setting up AV1 have mistakes, but his procedure for programming the Harmony remote for the second DVR is.

The important part: As RunnerFL indicates, you have to program the DirecTV remote first with the 00003 code. Then set up the remote to control the second HR2x on either AV1 or AV2 in Receiver Mode.

For Harmony users: After setting up the initial DVR device for the second HR2x, go to the Devices tab, select Settings/Confirm infrared commands. Set the DirecTV remote to AV1 and then learn the Power, Direction Up, and Select buttons as instructed. Select Update Remote, and if everything works correctly, you should be controlling the second HR2x without interfering with the first HR2x.

eBay is a very good place to get a brand new one at a decent price for this.

I bought my brand new one last week from Amazon for $117. I don't think Ebay is very good at all for this type of product since they're on sale somewhere all the time (that's where the Ebay people get them).

I'm sure glad I spent the extra $$$ I did when I first got my programmable remote. Ever since, I've be able to have it "learn" codes for every new device I've added (6-7 of them the past 2 years), and also program in new colored icons and macros for any custom control commands.

AS I've learned the past couple of days, there's no such thing as a dumb question. IN fact, many of us learn from the dumb questions!

I take it "watch dvr mode" is one of your activities?

When setting up the activity, it will ask you how you want the volume handled, just choose AVR.

Or, go to that activity and select "customize buttons". The next screen will have Volume Up and Down (among other things). In the drop down next to each, choose your avr as the device and volume up and down as the command.
