Well unfortunately my home and location can not get line of sight of the Dish Network HD Satellite. So, I have to live with DirecTV SD cricket.

I got the following email from Willow Cricket. They mentioned HD avaialbility for both Dish Network and DirecTV.

    Dear Willow subscriber,
Willow TV is proud to be the Official Broadcaster of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 in the USA, starting Feb 19th (with warm up games starting Feb 13th).

This event will be covered by Willow as never before, with a High Definition broadcast on DISH Network and DIRECTV, and a comprehensive offering on www.willow.tv including HD Streaming (with 3 Mbps and 1.2 Mbps options), Live Mobile streaming on all SmartPhones, and streaming on a host of other devices such as Roku, Boxee, PS3, Samsung Internet TVs, Netgear Push2TV and many more.

If you have any specific questions that you can't find an answer for, or just a question about an aspect or nuance of the game, post the question here, you'll get an instant answer that way.

There two main rules you need to know are: 1) When following international cricket you will root for England, and 2) When following English domestic cricket you will root for Hampshire. It really is as simple as that! :D

I don't believe that Dish Network will show in HD and DirecTV not. It's impossible. Last year DirecTV has shown some IPL matches in HD.

As frustrating as it may be, with one of crickets major events only a few days away, I think the take-home message thru this entire thread is the people on the phones at DirecTV and DISH have no clue when it comes to cricket, and you just have to wait until the matches actually begin - as we had to for the Ashes series, and as I have had to in years past with DirecTV.

I haven't signed up for any option yet - I'm not going to sign up for the DirecTV package when there's a chance they'll show it on a satellite I can't pick up. I'm not going to sign up for the website package when I may buy a new TV in the next few weeks which might have internet connectivity, and direct connection to Willow that way. I realize India kicks of the main tournament (probably a safe one v Bangladesh), but if I miss NZ v Kenya or Sri Lanka v Canada or other similar caliber matches, I think I'll live. Probably wouldn't have time to watch them if they were free anyway!

For what its worth, being ill at the moment, I forgot to check my DirecTV system during the India-Australia warmup game this morning (Mostly I was sleeping!) However, currently 497 is not even an available channel on my receivers, while 498 is listed as "World Cup Cricket" in the channel lists, but with nothing in the program guide. Saisport informs us a few posts back that the warm-up game was shown on 497, 2024 and 2027 - which means the phone reps telling others that an international dish is needed are possibly confused.

I can't imagine DirecTV would put warm-up games on 497, and then restrict the real thing to the intl dish channels as a teaser to get more people to install the intl dish - which is costly, apparently hated by installers, is not directly compatible with any of their other hardware, and which surely cannot be a long-term solution as they try to migrate all their services to satellites compatible with the SL3 or SL5 dishes. (This assumes some level of logic on DirecTV's part - but that assumption could also be incorrect!)

As willow is the content provider in this case, their messages that the WC will be in HD on DirecTV probably carry more weight - in which case an international dish is likely not required (at least to see the HD feed).

But really, who will know until the first game of the real competition begins. I realize this is totally unsatisfactory, but ongoing speculation here wont change it either.

Here's the weird part, I purchased DTV cricket ticket package three weeks ago and when I tried to watch the warm-up match this morning on channel 497 it said: "pay 5.99 to purchase the event"

Will this "razor sharp HD" be on an SD channel? I am yet to purchase the event. I called directv cs before the warm up game and was told that game was not part of the world cup ppv and the coverage of the $149 event would only start on the 19th. I am not sure if this is true.

Those of you who watched the warm up game, was there anything simultaneously being shown on 497-1 (HD channel).

The problem with DTV is if you talk to 10 CSR's they all will tell you 10 different things. Neither of 'em doesn't seem to have clue what's going on.This is indeed frustrating.

That is the way that it is advertised on DirecTV's website:
    http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/content/sports/cricket
    ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 $149 Feb 19 - April 2 2011

DISH's website also specifies Feb 19 as a start date:
    http://www.dishnetwork.com/packages/ppv/sports/cricket/default.aspx

Perhaps the coverage that the DirecTV CSR said one would need an international dish for is the current warm up matches on Willow TV? As for the PPV event, the EPG should be showing something next weekend.

Here is an article on ESPNSTAR's coverage. I think this is for the Indian audience (http://www.espnstar.com/cricket/icc...ail/item579699/ESS-gears-up-for-ICC-CWC-2011/). Not sure about coverage for other countries.

"ESPN STAR Sports, ICC’s Global Broadcast & Production Partner, will broadcast live India’s preparatory matches against Australia and New Zealand as the team in blue gets ready for the ultimate battle in Cricket supremacy – the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011."
