And what's wrong with trying to get free stuff from DirecTV?

I guess I just don't get the point.

I'm not saying be rude and practice CSRoulette, calling multiple times and playing agents off each other, wasting everyone's time. But in that brief window when we are off commitment, and as a consumer we have a bit of leverage, what's wrong with trying to use that opportunity to get the best deal we can?

Again, I wish you well and good luck. You are looking out for your best interests. I see nothing wrong with that.

As has been mentioned, many CSRs in many companies are prohibited from making outbound phone calls. (For good reasons, unfortunately.)

Regarding your larger situation, negotiation is part of the deal. Apologies about people who forget their manners and forget that part of the deal.

    Cheers,
    Tom

Why yes. :) If they had offered you the perfect deal, you should have said, "no thank you, that is too good..." (Yeah, right.) :) :)

A couple of phone calls to obtain an agreeable (to both parties) arrangement is no problem.

    Cheers,
    Tom

I had a cs called me back after I gave me my #. I was calling from a cell phone and was having problems with the signal. Very surprise that she called me back.

Funny isn't it? You have to have thick skin in these parts. There is a lot of great information and a lot of people willing to help here. Unfortunately there are also quite a number of DirecTV supporters that will not listen to even a hint of criticism and go straight to attack mode. They seem to think that the almighty DirecTV can do NO wrong. If someone has a problem with DirecTV then the problem is not with DirecTV it is with the customer.

The solution that works for me is - I ignore their posts and they ignore mine.

If what you need is MRV then DirecTV is going to beat Dish here in my opinion. I think overall the Dish Receivers are better but they don't really have an equal to MRV.

    Thanks.

They have a setup that will work in my situation (1 HD and 1 SD TV) but the question is, when will we upgrade to HD on the other TV.

I haven't tried calling back yet, but I might this afternoon.

Nah, I just think the recent "All Star" title has temporarily gone to their heads. They should use the same "special" titles here as they do on the Apple (MacRumor) forum: God and Demi-God, which would be more indicative of the attitude a few take.

Many companies ask for a number to reach you "in case you get disconnected". I'm always SHOCKED! when once actually does call back after being disconnected because it so rarely happens (calling back that is - the "disconnects" are oddly frequent). Such is the way of customer service these days.

I don't blame you on looking for the best deal. I have been dumped to Retention at Directv for many stupid reasons in my opinion. But I do understand they are Negotiator in many cases.

At least you can get an answer about MRV launching. I have yet to get that far. I will pay the $99 if that is what they want for my HR-22 and R-22 to be networked.

Also disregard the negative comments about what they think you were doing. You know what they say about assume.

Just to be clear, the Dish offering is not at all similar. The Dish offer involves running a second TV off of the first DVR. It is not independent nor does it add any tuners. It simply lets you watch what you would have watched in room 1 in room 2, but in SD.

It is almost like saying you get a second car free when you purchase the first. But the second car is a skateboard, with no wheels.

Actually the Dish option is independent of what is on TV one. Both TVs can DVR trickplay independently of each other.

But that is not Multi-room viewing as applied by the rest of the industry.

    Cheers,
    Tom

Don't let Robert E get to ya too much. He's really quick to defend DirecTV regardless of underlying details. Not calling him a "fanboy" at all, just noting that he's really, really quick to dismiss other's complaints.

Exactly. Particularly those smarmy responses that besmirch people who attempt to get deals, or monthly credits, or whatever. Nothing wrong with being a good consumer and trying to get the most for your $$. If DirecTV didn't hand those things out like candy, people would have no need to "fish" for them.

There's always been a sect here that seem to get their undergarments in a bunch over this topic.

    Good thinking. :D

I called once because I was pissed about Versus, and got Center Ice for the year. I called one other time because of billing discrepancies in two consecutive months (they agreed that it was their error), and got a $10 credit for 6 months. I'm about due for another call.

Yeah, I don't plan on coming back and saying "I got XYZ for $1!!!" This whole thread was about D* Customer Service calling you back if a call is disconnected prematurely.

Ha ha, I know. In spite of how I might sound I'm not really that thin skinned. I was just trying to reiterate the point of the thread. I agree that people who come on and make a big deal over their deal doesn't really serve the board so I don't intend to do it, no matter what I end up doing. :D
