The Forbes article on DirecTV hiring freezes and postponement of capital projects noted “While there were competing claims about which pay-TV operator has the most high-definition content, Rubin [Senior VP, Financial Planning and Investor Relations] said DirecTV remains ‘the clear leader and by a wide margin’ with over 130 HD channels” (an assertion some posters on this site strongly would dispute). Further, “The company plans to continue to press its HD offerings, since over the next three years about 40 million U.S. households are expected to sign up for HD.” Query whether the delay of “all but the most critical capital projects” will translate into continued disinclination to pay for new national HD programming or, alternatively, the perceived need to “press its HD offerings” forms a countervailing impulse that ultimately will lead to addition of highly-anticipated channels.

Well now, why is it that DirecTV can add multiple college sports channels, multiple soccer channels, multiple infomercial channels, and now another hunting/fishing channel (Sportman' s Channel), but they refuse to add HRTV (HorseracingTV). All we have is TVG for us horseracing fans, yes only one horseracing channel. Please add HRTV to ch. 603 and move VS. HD/SD to ch. 604. Why? Why? can't we have HRTV?

like I said, I have no issues with adding channels of any kind, but with the remaining HD Bandwidth, we really should backseat the sports a bit, as they have been 90+% of the new channels that have been added since D11 launched (not counting locals). So yes, fair is fair, you have gotten a bunch of channels you obviously want, now bring on the movie channels that probably a larger majority of us want. In regards to ESPNU, yes I would like to see it, but would rather have more national movie type channels right now, and let that one wait for D12 if it comes down to available bandwidth. In regards to the sales issue, yes, it would be like a backseat driver now, but one who understands what it takes, and D* doesn't have what it takes to get things done.

Don't know if this means anything saw the Beyonce DirecTV ad tonight proclaiming DirecTV now has over 150 HD channels where before I could have sworn this same ad proclaimed that DirecTV had over 130 HD channels.

    website says 130.

I thought it always said 130 also, which is a joke anyway (PPVs, etc. in that count), but if they are saying over 150 now, then I expect another 20+ PPVHD channels coming on-line either tomorrow or within a week or two.

That's not so easy when you are stuck with a contract more than a few people entered into who believed DirecTv's promises and press releases. This is blatant enough that it's one case where I would support a class action lawsuit. I for one haven't had a contract for some time, but there are many who can't just walk away. You obviously haven't figured it out yet that this is not the same DirecTv as when Rupert Murdoch was in charge. It's the new lame version!!

Will this channel be in a base package or do you need Sports Pack to get it?

Has anyone here seen sportsmens channel? I have. It looks like all the rejected shows from ESPN, Versus and Outdoor Channel. Another non HD Channel as we move toward an HD future. Programming is low quality, and they have no diversity in their shows. I have an ear to the industry and I know they were launched because they coughed up enough bucks to get carried....doesn't matter what your programming looks like. Another channel of guys wearing wife-beater t-shirts. D-TV has room for a couple of the best programs in each category. In Outdoor Porgramming it's without a doubt Outdoor Channel on channel 606. They are also available in High Definition, not on DTV yet.

Mark my words, sportsmens will go the way of the do-do bird, Man's, Men's, etc.

The article in Multichannel News said it was going in Choice+ - I'm going to be curious to see if it happens to also make it in the old TC+ as well...

Funny, didn't we hear the same complaints about it not being the same D* when Rupert Murdoch took over?

205? They should put it in the 600's, or higher in the 200's and save 205 for ESPNU when it finally goes HD. :D
