hello, is there anyway that you can take the d-drive out of a laptop and use it to retrive info from it or use it as an extra hard drive on another computer?

    Sure...

You would need to get a 2.5HD USB Enclosure (or some other adapter).

Your "D Drive" though is typically on the same hard drive as your "C Drive" on your laptops... there have been very very very few laptops out there built with two internal hard drives.

    ^ Agreed

More than likely it's a "Logical" drive.

How would I access the d-drive from my c-drive when i connect it to my other computer? Will it show up as 2 seprate drives or would it all be as one or do i need to format it differently?

If you have the access set-up as "Shared", you should see both drives.

Remember it may be a SATA drive in the notebook.

Right click on My Computer and select Manage. On the next screen, click on Drive Management. Does it now show up on the right hand side of the screen? If so, assign it a drive letter.
