I have seen bits and pieces of D*'s October newsletter posted, but for those of you who don't know:

    1. Free Choice Extra preview

    October 5-7

    2. Free Starz preview

October 11-14 (the newsletter says channels 520-533, so I don't know if it will include the new HD channels just added.)

    3. NHL Center Ice preview

    September 29-October 9

    4. Free SF when you buy NFLST

    October 1-27

Wow, another free Superfan promotion. I wonder if the package isn't doing as well as D* had hoped?

    Is Starz offering any discounts?
I know Showtime is offering a special at $6.95 a month for 3 months.

I have not heard of any discounts for Starz but you might be able to get a deal or free month if you ask nicely ;)

    Free superfan?!?

Damn it, why cant I get it? I paid a grand for HD Tivo. I paid 399 for the HR 20. I even had to pay 99 bucks to have the 5lnb dish installed. I have had ST since year one. I pay ectra for HD content. Im on autopay and I have 5 freaking hearts. Why can everyone but me get a discount on anything?

I just want to see the Broncos in HD.

If they pull this crap next year, then Im not going to reup my ST and Ill go to my wifes restraunt and watch it there. 250 bucks will buy a lot of wings and beer.

    Hey ntrprize:

I apologize in advance for giving advice if it is not wanted.

I was in almost the same situation as you. I called D*; explained my situation; asked for a refund for SF as I think it should be free, especially considering the money I spend with them each month.

The friendly CSR put me on hold for 30 seconds and told me she could not refund SF, BUT she would give me $10 credit off my bill for 12 months. Took less than 5 minutes of my time.

If I were you, I would call D*, explain exactly what you have put in your post (I'd leave off the Damn it part and BE POLITE! :) , and call the CSR by name during the conversation - makes the call more personal and can only work in your favor) and explain that for the money you spend you feel that SF hould be free and you would like them to consider giving you a refund or a monthly credit to offset the cost of SF. If you get nowhere with the CSR, politely ask to be transfered to retention or an NFL ticket specialist and plead your case there.

Please let me know how you make out - call right now :)

Just remember to be polite but firm :)

If I remember correctly the NHL Network was among those channels listed on several engineering HD test threads.

Comcast announced it will add the NHL Network on Oct. 1st and a Florida cable co goes live on Oct. 2nd.

Hopefully we will get it too before everyone begins play on next Wednesday.

Otherwise we can enjoy the free CI preview.....and wait.

For those of you who are upset about Sunday Ticket getting free Superfan now, please note, that 1/4 of the season will be completed before the offer, and it is still full-price for Sunday Ticket. It isn't that great a deal or anything to be upset about. If you wait until November or December, they will probably lower Sunday Ticket to 99 dollars. It doesn't mean that you got screwed for paying 250 dollars before the season started.
