The Genie has 5 tuners. Each DVR has 2 tuners, so you have 9 tuners and have to have a SWM 16 installed to use all your tuners. You can change a DVR to single-tuner under the setup, but why?

But I already said that the 2nd HD DVR is only set up to run ONE TUNER, and currently the other HD DVR is also only running ONE TUNER, after it has ran 2 tuners for 5 months.

The HR20-700 does not emply the "SPLITTER" and only runs a lin einto SAT 1 IN, the HR21-700 has the splitter and has a line going into sat 1 and sat 2 input.

That is not needed. It should only have a line going directly into Sat-In 1. I cannot fathom why it was set like that to begin with.

As we have said, you can keep it that way, but why.

no need to keep it that way as it is NOT WORKING... LOL. My dual tuners on the HR21-700 just randomly stopped working... but I forgot, DTV told me it never had dual tuners to begin with ..lol

You have 9 tuners installed. Although you might not want to use all 9 right now, I'd call and get the proper set up (SWM16).

You've said that one DVR is set to run as a single tuner. You've verified that under the satellite setup menu? Running only one coax into the unit doesn't mean single tuner.

The only reason to run two cables into a DVR with your system is if you have the HR20-100. Since you don't, there should only be one coax connected into the SAT1 input.

Ok first off the number of cables into the back has nothing to do with how many tuners it will try and use Ina swim system which you have to have to have genie. You must go into the menus in system setup and run dish setup and choose to only use one tuner to turn off a tuner on a Hi Definition DVR. Frankly the installer messed up and they are required to install a swim16 so that all tuners work because the equipment you have is able to use 9 tuners. You paid for that and that's what they need to do. With that said that spitter has more of a chance of harming your system than anything else granted the likelihood is it won't anyway.

Stil it's not the way its supposed to be hooked up and is more proof the guy hasn't a clue. If they send the same guy out ask for another and I'd call and complain till I got it done free of charge since they didn't install right in the first place.

Funny... today my dual tuner is back and working in the master bedroom.... it is like a ghost is screwing with me. Dont know how this thing works since the DTV CSR told me my unit does not have that capability.

Regardless, when the tech gets here tomorrow, he obviously needs to hook things up a little different.

My guess would be that the swim released a channel from another DVR and the bedroom DVR was able to grab it. You'd keep having issues till it gets wired correctly.

To get your system working as designed, you need that SWM16 installed. Do not let the installer leave without getting one installed. You might think all is working now, but it isn't. As inkahauts has said, your missing tuner just shifted to another location.

You can definitely give that line a rest now. If you step back and think about it for a minute, in a way one of your DVR's does not have dual tuner capability because as almost everyone has been telling you is you are over on your tuner limit, so one unit must operate in single tuner mode(or your Genie must only use 4), as you cannot have more than 8 tuners total on an SWM8 which seems to be what you have based on your equipment you have described.

I get what you are saying, but lets not confuse what was said to me by the CSR. he said SPECIFICALLY that the HR21=700 does not have the ability to switch between 2 tuners(no matter how it is set up), that is a far cry from the current dish configuration at my house will not allow the dvr to function with dual tuners.

Over the years I've heard some whoppers from CSRs of many companies. Some of them are unbelievable, even violating basic laws of physics that everyone should know. It would be funny if it weren't so frustrating when dealing with it.

The great group of guys here will always know way more than almost any of the CSR's. If you keep hanging your hat on a mistaken phrase or miscommunication from a Directv CSR you'll get nowhere. And folks here will begin to ignore you. We know they are not all 100% knowledgeable about the myriad of products and services they offer, yet thats the subject of literally 100's of posts a week here. It looks like you finally have someone coming out to look into your setup/config, so your problem should end up being resolved in the end. Truthfully, I tried to envision the phone call scenario that could potentially troubleshoot this. I dont know what info they can see on their screens, beyond the stb's on your account. Do they note whether you have a SWM8 or SWM16, do they know if you have an 3 or 5LNB, etc.....it would be a nightmare even for someone that knows the products in and out. People need to appreciate the complexity of these things and working through issues over the phone.

Im not trying to start a pissing match with you, but this is not the first time ive been here, nor the first time ive asked questions. I used to stay up on all this equipment, but I simply dont have time to keep up with this stuff anymore. Ive been a member here since 2006, so I dont need you to tell me how to post here. I know people here know plenty more than the CSRs on DTV, but if you look at the title of this thread, it was more about my frustration with a CSR telling me my piece of equipment couldnt do what It has been doing for probably 6 years or so. This feature is a pretty basic thing that was an added feature to these machines YEARS ago, so to have someone tell em bullshit just frustrated me a little. Nothing more. :)

could have been something as simple as the CSR making a mistake on the model number, if I recall right there is/was a H21-700 that is only a single tuner model but the Hr21-700 has always been a dual tuner
