Does this allow me when traveling to sign on to my connected Genie at home and watch a program I have previously recorded? The PGA major golf tourney is on tomorrow and I would like to watch my recording from my motel tomorrow night.

You must set up Out of Home service first, something I've not found to be a piece of cake. And your device must be first activated while on the home network. Otherwise, subject to the vagaries of your home upload speed, and the speed of download at your destination, yes!

How does one set up Out of Home service? Do you know what remote devices are supported? IPad, Android tablet, Windows laptop, etc? Can I do the setup from my remote location?

It takes a bit of doing in my experience, and you cannot do it remotely. I have run it on my iPad, iPhone and Mac.

I think you are talking about Genie Go? That is the piece of equipment that lets you watch your recordings anywhere, without being connected to the internet. It costs around $150.

Directv Anywhere is being able to watch programming and VODs from Direct TV on your mobile devices. It is streaming, not downloads.

Thanks, SM; looks like I made some assumption not in evidence.

Where did you see that? On DTV's site it shows me $149 and Solid Signal had them at $129 last check.

They must have raised it back up. I'm pretty sure it was selling for $99 at one point. Maybe that was a special?

DTV Anywhere does not allow live programming does it?

I'm not really sure. I just know it is DTV content, not your recordings. I have used it via Maxgo and HBOGo to watch shows on my tablet when away from home.

You can watch live TV on your home network with it, but not outside the home. It has to see at least one of your receivers, otherwise you're limited to VOD content.

To note: Even without the GenieGo DIRECTV Everywhere actually does allow you to stream a few channels live outside the home network to their iOS or Android apps (channels tagged as "on the go") on tablets or smartphones, but just not very many of them are available at present for this.

Actually, that is not totally accurate. Some channels like TNT show some sports and those will work.. They just don't have any sports only channels.
