Or get it the same day at blockbuster. I have a feeling you won't find the 28 day movies here until 28 days.

If I read the details correctly once a movie is recorded it will show in the playlist. After your viewing of the title it will be deleted to allow the next one to be recorded. Depending on your preference you could have upto 10 films waiting in your playlist.

Possibly - but because I'm downloading Avatar, it's only 31% done after 4 hours, and I already have it on BluRay, plus the fact that I have not chosen to purchase it, it's highly unlikely I'll be charged for it :D

The other 2 were Watch Now, not broadband.

That said the HR24-500 is showing only the "Top Picks" (those 3 movies). No other categories have movies, so I'm not seeing the titles others are seeing. I'll check things out on the HR20-700.

If I'm not mistaken, the last 2 major titles on PPV (Avatar and something else), were advertised as "before Netflix, Red Box and DVD release", were they not?

I'm guessing DirecTV is trying to strike deals similar to what you might find on hotel PPV - a "limbo release" after theaters but before consumer release, no?

You shouldn't be confused, this is all as clear as mud I think! :)

I don't think everything is just up and running right now cause the trial has started.. I think we have the software on our machines that are supposed to be able to start using this... I don't think they have any movies set up to be downloaded in this new way yet.. But I am guessing on that one... (based on the movies AR listed in the first post)

I think they will show up in our regular playlist, just as regular shows and other DOD items that we ask to be recorded. SO I think that is how you're supposed to know something is ready to be watched.. I look at the qeue like I do the series manager.... not where I go to see if its recorded, but where I go to see if its going to be recorded.

I think the weeks thing is just wrong. I think thats for right now while they are figuring this out and creating it, but I don't think when its actually rolled out it will be weeks.. I think they probably have an expectation of no more than 1 week for really obscure titles, if not less...

My guess, they will be using all PPV channels and all non used frequency, including part time rsns, and transponders that aren't full of channels at all to load most if not all their library many times a week... We are talking about a LOT of channels, and even if they are only dark for say 4 hours a night, thats a lot of programs...

You have netflix now, right? I think the principal is identical.. You set up a que, with many movies, lots of which aren't even out yet when you put them in your que, and then when they hit the market, they are on you unit waiting to be watched.. And you get to choose how many movies are ready and waiting for you at any given moment... 1 to 10... The key is that you would need to have a full qeue to always have some movies ready for you to watch... just like people do with netflix...

The only down time is the first time when you start adding movies to your qeue...

Again, I don;t think you'll ever be waiting a couple weeks for the newest movies out, much less the others.. I would guess you will see the latest and most popular 10 movies dropped to machines on a nightly basis...

I would love to see them figure out a way to do this method for ALL dod.. which I think maybe, just maybe, they might be able to do with say, 110, and say, the bss band sats, when they get launched someday.. Yeah, I know, very forward thinking, but why not?

Hey, you're guessing, I'm guessing, but in the end, until we get far into the trial, we won't really know... I think this is going to start out a bit slowly...

But i have a feeling that directv plans on using some of their d12 bandwidth for this until there is actually enough channels to broadcast...

Also, I still think that we may see the spaceways doing some of this work... target certain movies to certain markets that are qeued... who knows...

Dont you guys think they may have to wait until D10 is back online to get enough bandwidth to do this? They are still taking channels down to make room for Extra Innings and the Tennis stuff... Just a thought.

If your downloading it via broadband, its not from ch 1096 and not part of the trial... AR said that this trial, for the time being will only be downloading movies via sat, nothing via broadband...

Yeah, I think that screen is a copy of the 1100 channel and is linked to 1100, and not 1096...

When you see the screen on your hr20, you;ll see the difference, assuming your on the latest ce...

Add me to the list of HR20-700 users that still shows "channel not available" despite being on the latest CE.

Avatar was advertised before Netfix or Red Box and Same Day as DVD. Avatar had a street date of April 22 I saw it listed on PPV that day, next day I purchased the Blu-ray. Edge of Darkness was the most recent done this way.

OK well kids are watching Tooth Fairy now (I'm waiting for a real hockey game to start in 1/2 hour), so all i'm in $ wise is 5.99.

The picture and sound are great quality and it performs just like any other recorded program.

That said I like inkahauts' observations on the topic so far.

And it still begs the question, "When does it start?"

Since there was a discussion started on 5/28, I'm assuming the trial started on 5/28, so technically I qualify for a 5.99 credit

Try what I did (what Larry said I should do):

    http://www.dbstalk.com/showpost.php?p=2478734&postcount=25

It worked for me. Bear in mind that once you do these steps it might take a couple hours... worth a try for sure.

Did the movie show up in your playlist? If so, what channel did it say it came from? If not 1096, your kids just spent 5.99 for you.. based on what greg has said... :D

I find it odd that there is no amber light or anyway to know if your Movies are being downloaded.
