El Segundo, CA Dec 19, 2002 The satellite, a Boeing 601HP, is being maneuvered into position at the primary DIRECTV orbital slot at 101 degrees West Longitude (WL) where it will be handed over to DIRECTV by Boeing mission control and ready for service by year end. DIRECTV 4S is scheduled for hand-over on Dec. 21 and will begin transmission of nearly 400 DIRECTV local channels to 41markets on Dec. 27. DIRECTV 4S was launched from the Guiana Space Center on Nov. 26 and will enable DIRECTV to meet the federal must carry requirement by the Jan. 1, 2002 effective date.
