I seem to recall that once I was unable to watch recorded shows from one of the movie channels after I dropped the subscription.

What you might be remembering is that you can no longer download VOD associated with a package once you cease subscribing to it. Also, in the past, you couldn't download VOD associated with a package if you're just getting a free weekend's worth of access to it.

thats annoying, thankfully a few show again this weekend. and why do these receivers appear smart and know we didnt sub to the channel but then they go ahead and record it and use up our valuable space! makes no sense.

I always appreciate these free previews. After going through the weekend's HD offerings and picking the 3 movies I wanted to record I was reminded why I don't subscribe to this package.

A recording of a blacked-out channel takes up very little valuable space. A black screen compresses extremely well.

But the receivers really aren't all that "smart": for every recording I tried to set up on a Starz channel for during the free preview, I had to affirm to the receiver that, yes, I knew I wasn't currently authorized for the channel, but it should record anyway. Therefore, it's my fault, not the receiver's, for any recordings that didn't actually work. (But I knew that historically, these free previews have gone active at 6:00 A.M. Eastern/3:00 A.M. Pacific, so I didn't set any movies to record before that time. In fact, I remember looking at "Synecdoche, New York" -- which I've been interested in seeing -- and being disappointed by its start time, and the fact that it doesn't seem to be running again this weekend.)

I found over a dozen HD movies I wanted to record. That may be because I hardly ever go to the theater and I rent very few DVDs or Blu-rays.

And yet when you delete a 2-hour blank movie, the % available goes up 2 or 3 percent.

Is anyone else still getting Starz or am I just lucky? I unblocked all the Starz channels from my custom guide during the free preview and forgot to block them again. Last night I was flipping through the guide and saw all the Starz channels were still there (not greyed out). I even was able to record Iron Giant last night.

I double checked my bill and we're not being charged.
